B-Mets Ride Four-Run Fourth to Victory, 5-4
BINGHAMTON,NY – The B-Mets scored four runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-runtriple by Rylan Sandoval, and held on to defeat the Akron Aeros 5-4 Saturdaynight at NYSEG Stadium. B-Mets starter Darin Gorski went a season-high 6.1innings to collect his first win since April 19.
Leadingby one, Reese Havens started the big rally by walking against Akron starterPaolo Espino. Juan Lagares followed with a single to right and Travis Ozgadoubled Binghamton’s lead with a double down the left field line. Juan Centenokept the hit parade going with an RBI single. Sandoval capped the rally bystroking a two-run triple to the right field alley, giving the B-Mets a 5-0advantage.
Binghamtondrew first blood in the game thanks to Matt den Dekker in the third. The B-Metscenter fielder crushed a 2-0 pitch from Espino over the right field fence forhis team-leading eighth homer of the season. Espino (0-2) allowed five runsover five innings in his second loss.
Thesupport was enough for Gorski (3-3) to collect his third win of the season andsnap a six-start winless streak. The lefty retired 12 of the first 13 he facedto start the game. The Aeros finally scratched out a run in the fifth inning ona double by Matt Lawson.
Gorskiposted a perfect sixth inning, but ran into trouble in the seventh. He issued awalk to Ryan Rohlinger and saw his night come to an end after allowing a tripleto Ben Copeland. Brad Holt entered and allowed a pair of run-scoring hits. By the time the righty fanned Kyle Bellows toend the frame the Aeros were within one run. Gorski allowed three runs on fourhits and struck out three in the game.
Itremained that way into the ninth as B-Mets failed to add any insurance runs.Adrian Rosario started the ninth, but could not finish it. The righty recordedtwo outs, but surrendered a base hit and issued a walk before Pedro Lopez madethe call to the bullpen. With the potential tying run on second, Robert Carsonentered and struck out Tim Fedroff to end the game, securing his second save inthe process.
TheB-Mets (26-27) continue their series against the Aeros Sunday afternoon at 1:05PM. RHP Greg Peavey matches up against LHP T.J. House. The Horizons FederalCredit Union pre-game show begins at 6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
