Suspended
BINGHAMTON, NY - Heavy rain suspended action in the top of the fourth inning as the Binghamton Mets led the Akron Aeros by a 2-1 score Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. The game will resume Monday morning at 10:35 AM.
Nick Weglarz had a 3-1 count and a runner on first base with two outs when the umpiring crew opted to place the tarp on the field. The game was officially suspended after the teams waited through a 53-minute delay.
The first three and half innings of the game were interrupted by a pair of brief delays. The first pitch was bumped by 29 minutes due to impending rain. Following the stoppage, B-Mets starter Greg Peavey began the game with a perfect inning.
Binghamton plated two runs in the second against Akron starter T.J. House. After Juan Lagares stole second with two outs, Joe Bonfe shot a single through the hole on the left side to give Binghamton the lead. Bonfe scored one batter later when center fielder Tim Fedroff bobbled a single by Kai Gronauer for his second error of the season.
The Aeros scored a run in the third inning on a single by Davis Stoneburner before play was interrupted for another 11 minutes following the completion of the half inning. The teams nearly squeezed in a full inning before heavy rain rolled back through the area, prompting the game's suspension.
In accordance with Rule 4.12(a)(8) of the Major League Rulebook, tomorrow's regularly scheduled game with be seven innings in length and will be played following the completion of the suspended game. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show for the day's action begins at 10:20 AM on ESPN 1360 WYOS.
