Cohoon Throws Six Perfect Innings

Mark Cohoon allowed just one hit through his first six inningsand the Binghamton Mets held on to defeat the New Britain Rock Cats 4-3 Tuesdaynight at New Britain Stadium.

Cohoon(5-7) matched a season-high by navigating through 7.1 innings, allowing threeruns on five hits. The southpaw faced just two over the minimum through hisfirst six innings. Chris Colabello collected the only hit, a line drive singleto center.

Afterscratching out just one runner in the first four innings, the B-Mets finally ralliedagainst starter Blake Martin (3-4) in the fifth. After loading the bases withtwo singles and a hit batsman, Wilfredo Tovar banged a three-run double off theleft field wall, raising his average with runners in scoring position to .500(12-for-24).

TheRock Cats broke through against Cohoon in the seventh. Deibinson Romero doubleddown the third base line with two outs and Nate Hanson brought him home with asingle through the hole on the left side.

Binghamtonstretched the lead back to three in the eighth against reliever Jose Gonzalez. EricCampbell crushed a 2-1 pitch over the left field fence for his second homer inas many games, giving the B-Mets a 4-1 advantage.

Thelead nearly disappeared in the eighth. Shawn Roof led off with a double andAaron Hicks ended Cohoon’s night by doubling to left. With one out, Brad Holtentered and immediately allowed a two-run double to Joe Benson, cutting thelead to one.

WithBenson representing the tying run, Oswaldo Navarro lifted a long fly ball toright center. Pedro Zapata tracked the ball to the warning track, but failed tomake the catch as he bounced into the wall. Benson, forced to hold at second,only advanced to third on the double.

Theplay proved pivotal as Holt retired the next two hitters to preserve the lead.Robert Carson shut the door in the ninth, fanning Roof to secure his ninth saveof the season.
