AAA – Buffalo:
RHP Collin McHugh takes the
mound tonight for his eighth start of the season with the Herd. In his last
outing, McHugh allowed just three runs in six innings to Charlotte on July 20.
It was his second consecutive quality start. McHugh has not yielded more than
three earned runs in any of his last five starts.
Wednesday – Loss, 4-5
Everything was going along just peachy-keen[i]…
SP Collin McHugh was impressive (6.2-IP, 9-R,
5-H, 6-K, 1-BB, 3.86), followed by Justin Hampson (0.1-IP,
0-R, 1.98) getting Collin out of a jam.
Then, the pitching wheels came off when Fernando Cabrera gave up four earned runs in the 8th.
Pedro Beato threw the walk-off in the 9th
and the rest was history.
Seven hits by the Bisons, two of which were by 3B Zach Lutz (.297). I just don’t know where to project
this guy. David Wright is ahead of him, Wilmer Flores is behind, he plays no other position,
and he’s frequently injured. I understand he’s a great guy. Hopefully, he can
take his career in a new direction come spring.
The attendance was great (7,543), but that’s because it was
an away game.
Look for Mike Nickeas to catch
on Thursday.
AA-Binghamton:
RHP Zack Wheeler (9-5,
2.99) makes his 18th start of the season and second against the Rock Cats.
Wheeler comes off his roughest start as a B-Met. The righty allowed a
career-high eight runs on six hits over just 3.2 innings against the Bowie
Baysox on July 20. Wheeler baffled the Rock Cats in a win on May 23, allowing
just one run on two hits while striking out seven in eight innings. Wheeler
owns the sixth-best ERA and ranks third in strikeouts (101) in the Eastern
League.
RHP B.J. Hermsen (6-5, 3.44) takes the mound for his 15th
start as a Rock Cat and makes his second start versus the B-Mets. Hermsen
defeated the Harrisburg Senators in his last start on July 20. He allowed four
runs (three earned) on eight hits over six innings. The Iowa native allowed a season-high
ten hits against the B-Mets on May 24. He took the no-decision, allowing just
four runs (three earned) over seven innings. Hermsen started the season with
the Fort Myers Miracle (High-A). He was promoted after going 1-0 with a 0.78
ERA in four starts in the Florida State League. Selected in the 6th round of
the 2008 draft out of West Delaware HS (Manchester, IA), Hermsen is in his
fourth pro season.

repeats delivery, consistent command keeping him from Mets… 84 pitches in
4.0-IP… only 58 strikes… 6-R, 5-ER, 5-K, 0-BB… fooey
Then… Frank Francisco eventually came in: 0.2-IP, 2-R, 27.00

1-BB, 2.51… we might be seeing he start of a limit of innings for some of these
guys, even the high school pitchers. He’s followed by his sidekick, Marcos Camarena (2.53) who threw in two more scoreless
innings.
LF Dustin Lawley continues to rake. He went 2-3, 2-R,
1-RBI, raised his seasonal BA to .281, and he’s .462 in the last 10 games. I
can easily see a bump up to Lucy coming for the playoffs there.
Another hot bat has
been RF Greg Pron (2-4) who is .333 in his past
10 games.
