Daily Mets Minors Report – 7-29-12

Date: 7-29-12

MLB - Mets:

Jon Heyman‏ - Mets biggest deadline move might be benching Jason Bay.

AAA – Buffalo:

RHP Jeurys Familia makes his IL-best 22nd start of the season tonight. The righty fell in defeat last Monday against Charlotte after allowing five earned runs in 4.2 innings of work. The 22-year old rookie has been much better on the road this season. In 10 starts away from Coca-Cola Field, Familia is 6-2 with a 3.08ERA and 48 strikeouts in 49.2 innings of work.

LHRP Robert Carson made his Bisons and Triple-A debut last night and struck out two batters over two scoreless innings. The southpaw led Binghamton (AA) with nine saves, going 1-2 with a 4.79ERA in 31 games. Carson also made his big league debut in two games earlier this year.

Saturday – loss, 0-6

You see, this is what I mean about this guy. First, you get an almos perfect outing and then, a clunker like this one: 3.0-IP, 66-36, 5-E, 6-H, 2-BB, 2-K… The second inning was particularly hard on Famila, which included a stretch of four straight singles.

There were only five Bisons hits, which included doubles by Mike Nickeas (.200) and Mike Baxter (.375).

Buffalo has now lost 8 out of their last nine games. Sounds familia, err, I mean, familiar.

AA-Binghamton:

RHP Greg Peavey (4-6, 5.64) makes his 19th start of the season and fourth against the Portland Sea Dogs. Peavey snapped a nine-game winless streak in his previous start versus the New Britain Rock Cats on July 23. The righty allowed just one unearned run on three hits through seven innings to collect his first victory since May 20. In three starts against the Sea Dogs, Peavey has gone 2-0 with 5.27 ERA and received an average of nine runs of support. Portland has hit .351 as a team against him.

RHP Jeremy Kehrt (4-3, 4.73) takes the hill for the 19th time this season and eighth time as a starter. After the beginning the season in the bullpen, Kehrt was added to the rotation in early June. He took a no-decision in his last start on July 23 against the Trenton Thunder, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits over 5.1 innings. Kehrt had a busy month of June, making two appearances with the Salem Red Sox (High-A) and two more with the Pawtucket Red Sox (AAA). In three appearances versus the B-Mets, the Indiana native has allowed three earned run over 11.0 innings (2.45 ERA). Binghamton has hit .275 off him. A 47th-round selection in 2008, Kehrt is in his fifth year with the Red Sox organization.

Saturday – Loss, 1-5

The pitching broke down for the B-Mets also. SP Greg Peavey gave up five runs in six innings, raising his seasonal ERA to an unacceptable 5.67; however, Adam Kolarek and Armondo Rodriguez did combine for three scoreless innings to end the game.

Peavey has not had one of those kind of years that earns one a promotion to the next level next spring and it will be interesting to see what the Mets do with him. They really loved drafting this guy.

Scattered hits included LF Eric Campbell (.317), DH Jefry Marte (.263), and SS Wilfredo Tovar (.255).

A+ - St. Lucie: -

Saturday – Win, 8-3

What’s with this Tyler Pill? First, he goes 3-4, 2.61 in Savannah, now he’s 5-1, 2.09 in Lucy. That’s a combined 8-5, 2.35 in 18-games, 17-starts. Oh, and for a guy that supposedly has no fastball,  he has 95-Ks in 103.1-IP (only 20-BB).

Guess who will be one of the B-Mets starters next season?

Here comes 3B Aderlin Rodriguez: 2-4, 1-R, double, 4-RBI, .246.

A – Savannah: -

Saturday – loss, 8-9

Mike Newman‏ -

At The Rome Braves for Mets Domingo Tapia… Tapia just a little less dominant in the 2nd. Some very bad swings from baby Braves… Tapia still working in the mid-90's here… (5.1-IP, 6-K, 3-ER)

The game was lost on two Yucarybert De La Cruz (.194) errors.

DH Cam Maron:  3-3, 2-R, RBI, 2-BB, .299

CF Gilbert Gomez:  1-4, 2-R, 2-BB, .265

A-Low – Brooklyn:

Saturday – Loss, 2-3

The Cyclones pitching was excellent. SP Hansel Robles had another QS (5.0-IP, 1-ER, 7-K, 0-BB, 2.04) and John Mincone was as dominant as usual (2.0-IP, 0-R, 1-KK, 0.44).

Only five scattered hits for Brooklyn, including a double by C Kevin Plawecki (.255).

Rookie – Kingsport:

Saturday – Win, 9-5

SS Garin Cecchini hits a grand slam for his first professional HR.  CF Bradley Marquez made a rare appearance, going 2-5, 1-R,RBI (.273).

SP Corey Oswalt is finally starting to settle in: 7.2-IP, 3-ER.
