It Was All Dustin Lawley and Michael Fulmer

TheSavannah Sand Gnats won their second straight game, defeating the KannapolisIntimidators 6-2 behind five shutout innings from RHP Michael Fulmer. The 19-year old Fulmer, whose 2.51 ERA leads theSAL, struck out eight, tying a personal season-high.

The Gnats (15-18/56-44) scored the game’s first run in the bottomof the first inning. CF Gilbert Gomezwalked and scored on 3B Brian Harrison’ssingle into centerfield.

Savannah pushed its lead to 4-0 with a three-run fifth inning. 1B Cole Frenzel began the inning bybouncing a double down the rightfield line. After Gomez walked, LF Dustin Lawley’s RBI single into centerscored Gomez. Gomez came home on a wild pitch and then Lawley scored on 3B Brian Harrison’s sacrifice fly.

Lawley was hit by a pitch and scored in the seventh to putSavannah in front 5-0. Lawley, who was 2-for-3 with two singles, an RBI and tworuns scored Wednesday, is hitting .462 (18-for-39) in his last 10 games.

The Intimidators (13-18/46-55) scored their only runs in the topof the eighth inning against reliever EstarlinMorel to cut the score to 5-2, Savannah. With the tying run at the plate,the Gnats called on reliever ChasenBradford, who struck out 3B Joe DePinto to end the Intimdators’ threat.

The Gnats will send LHP AlexPanteliodis (3-5, 3.84) against Kannapolis RHP Chris Devenski (5-5, 4.89) in the final game of the team’seight-game homestand Thursday night at 7:05 pm.
