Here are five key Mets minor
league players you way see running wind springs when you get to Citi Field for
the game you’re about to see someday:
Eric Campbell – 1B-3B-RF-LF – Binghamton – we write a lot
about Campbell and we’ll keep doing it until he, at least, gets promoted to
Buffalo. Campbell is currently hitting .317 which is sort of a slump for him.
He hits everyone and everything. He hit lefties at .358 and righties at .302.
and he has only committed one error playing all these positions. He’s a utility
dream.
Alan Dykstra – 1B – Binghamton – Dykstra was picked right
after the Mets picked Ike Davis (and I was very vocal that I thought the Mets
picked the wrong guy). He has spent the lion share of 2013 on the DL, but he’s
back now and getting his legs back (98-AB, 4-HR, 10-RBI). Last year, for
Binghamton, he hit .267, 19-HR, 77-RBI, .864-OBP. This is the guy that would
fill in on first if Ike Davis went down for an extended amount of time.
Blake Forsythe – C – St. Lucie – The Mets drafted Blake in the
3rd round of the 2010 season because of his big sophomore numbers in
college. He spend most of his junior year hurt so this looked, on paper, as a
steal; however, Forsythe has sort of snoozed his was through his first two
professional years. He’s doing much better this season (.263, 5-HR, 33-RBI)
though he does have seven errors. There’s still an outside shot here folks.
Cory Vaughn – OF – St. Lucie – No one is questioning Cory’s
ability to hit a ball outside of a stadium, but no one questioned Brahiam Maldonado either. Everybody including his
Sunday school teacher has tried to change his swing, but he’s sticking to what
he does unnatural. All this tool (I use this word in a good way) has to do is
learn plate discipline and spray a little more and he could go all the way to
Queens. God knows he has the personality.
