  2. 1) I would sell majority ownership but keep 15 % of team. This would bring in new money and fresh minds.

    2) Have the commissioner steer me to the right kind of people to revive baseball in queens and NYC (NL).

    3) I would look for options with in and or trade some of the guys in the minors ( who are blocked by others) for a outfield bat and other glaring needs( bullpen).

    4) As far as DW goes with new owners coming in , they would want a link to the past to show going forward it will be different but the same.As far as RA , I would sell high on him and see the best package you can get for him.
The 2013 season would be more laying the foundation for the decade of Dominance to come.

  3. Aight..
Lets see. This team is a mess. No outfielders. I don`t think there are any OFers that we can afford so you have to go after wildcard types.

    Step 1:
Offer Grady Sizemore a 2-3 million base contract where he can earn up to 6 million. Don`t matter if he gets hurt. WORTH THE RISK.
    Step 2:
Try to get Melky Cabrera on the cheap. Not sure any teams would want this roid user on their team. Offer maybe a 3 year 24 million offer. He is 28 and can be part of the fix.
    Step 3:
RESIGN DAVID WRIGHT! JUST DO IT.
    Step 4:
Don`t rush to extend RA Dickey. You could always wait for him to have a worse year next year and pay him accordingly.
    Step 5:
Sign Peter Moylan to a MILB deal. Try to sign Mike Gonzalez as the lefty in your pen. Should not command a lot of money.
    Step 6:
    Here is the BIGGIE:
SIGN JUAN CARLOS OVIEDO. AKA Leo Nunez. This guy can be had for a sack of potatoes and has great potential.
    Step 6:
Wait. What else can you do?

  4. Opening Day Lineup:
    IF HEALTHY

    Melky Cabrera
    Ruben Tejada
    David Wright
    Ike Davis
    Grady Siezmore
    Lucas Duda
    Daniel Murphster (IF NOT TRADED)
Josh Thole (or who over the hell the catcher is)

    Starting Staff
    Dickey
    Johan
    Niese
    Harvey
    Gee

    Bullpen
    Juan Carlos Oviedo
    Frank Francisco
    Bobby Parnell
    Mike Gonzalez
    Peter Moylan
    Josh Edgin

This team looks pretty good. Who disagrees? But I bet 100 percent that they won`t try to sign ANY of these players because they are retards.

  5. 1. you were the owner a team with no money in the bank

Cash out. I wouldn't have the patience to go through all the Madoff BS and public lashings. Cut your losses, still have a few hundred mill in the bank, and go live in a secluded island somewhere.

2, the Commissioner of Baseball watching over this mess...

Of course as the Commish I would like to step in and force a new owner. I'm not entirely sure I would have the authority to do that though? I mean the Wilpons own the Mets, and are not technically bankrupt or anything. Would it fly to just slam down my baseball bat shaped gavel and declare the Wilpons unfit owners?

    3. The GM give 10mil more to spend in 2013

Hide it in your Mr. Met tote bag for 2014 when this team has a better shot of winning and isn't cash strapped.

    4. The GM told to make the decision on David and RA...

Offer something around market value 110/6 for DW and 55/4 for RA. If that doesn't cut it sell them off for the best prospects you can get a hold of. Preferably AAA/AA OFs and a catcher. I'm not convinced David wants to stay, especially after his recent comments about having to see what the direction of the team is.

  6. I'll be in the War Room in a little while; in the meantime, on the heels of the recent article by Adam Rubin confirming that the Mets won't really have any additional $$ to spend next year, keep in mind that there are still players we already HAVE that need to be decided upon, whose contracts are expiring- Scott Hairston, Jon Rauch, etc. Do you try an end-around and move a Johan to the now cash-flush Dodgers?? Let's see some CREATIVITY, folks- like "Mets GM" is doing!! Does NOT mean u have to agree with anything already said- in fact, DON'T- let's see what YOU do as Mets GM!!

  7. Okay, the sleeves are rolled up (actually, wearing a t-shirt in this heat) and the old, unlit cigar is clamped firmly in the mouth, and this old GM is ready to make some deals.

First of all, we only have $10 million to "play with", and I am going to re-sign Scott Hairston to a 2-year, $4 million dollar deal. At least I know that ONE outfielder will hit some homers.

Second, I'm also going to re-sign Jon Rauch in the bullpen, to a one-year deal for $3.5 million, leaving us with a total of $4.5 million left over.

Next, I am re-signing RA Dickey to a 3-year, $39 million dollar deal (not done with Dickey yet.)

In the last of my "re-signings", David Wright receives a 5 year, $110 deal with a sixth-year option, and the contract does NOT contain a no-trade clause.

    Now, let the dealing begin.

With so little money remaining, and one more year (plus a $5.5 mil buyout) of Johan's contract ($25 million), I call the now cash-laden LA Dodgers and offer them a deal- they get Johan, we pay the buy-out and $15 mil of Johan's 2013 contractual obligation, and also include second base "prospect" Reese Havens in the deal (he needs a change of scenery) along with Allan Dykstra (another one who needs a change and also goes to a team that is starved for power at first base). In exchange, we receive $10 mil in salary relief, as well as Dodgers rookie prospect OF, Jeremy Rathjen (he projects as a starting outfielder for a team that has 2 of those locked-up long term at the big league level for many years).

    End, part one

  8. Part 2:

Okay, now for the first controversial move:

I trade the newly-signed RA Dickey to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for Carlos Martinez, RHP, Kolten Wong, 2B, and Oscar Taveras, OF - 3 of the Cards top 5 prospects. Taveras, in particular, could be ready for the bigs at the start of 2014 and is a fully-formed, top flight outfield prospect. Martinez has pitched well in the Texas league this year, has very projectable stuff and could slot into the 3 or 4 spot in a rotation by 2015- OR, he could be a great trade chip!

    End part 2

    ReplyDelete
  9. Part 3:

We take the just-acquired Carlos Martinez (Cards) and add reliever Bobby Parnell and move them, along with SS Tovar and 3B Zack Lutz to the Rockies-
    for
3B prospect Nolan Arenado, who is having a down year (for him) and who apparently has been accused of having maturity issues. Give him a season with Wally Backman in AAA and watch him become the third baseman in 2014 for the team. Because...

  10. ...when last we left our "hero" he was hanging off the edge of the burning bridge while Snydely Whiplash was hammering his fingers with a mallet...either that, or some crazy person was trying to fix this Me(t)ss of things...

so here, folks, is the BIGGEST part of this off-season plan. I don't like it, you don't like it, but it most likely HAS to happen...

We trade 3B David Wright to the Blue Jays for:
    Travis D'Arnaud, C
    Daniel Norris, LHP
    Anthony Gose, OF
    and
    Noah Syndergaard, RHP

That's 4 of the Jays Top 10 prospects, loading the Mets org with not only a Top 5 caliber farm system, but bringing a total of 6 top quality bats (Rathjen, Wong, Taveras, Arenado, D'Arnaud and Gose) and 2 top flight arms (Norris and Syndergaard), leaving the team with a LOT of options to trade arms for other position players, as needed.

Yes, the major league team loses most, if not all, of it's star quality, but let's face it- we're NOT going to compete in 2013, and this means that, with the coming of Wheeler and others, the team suddenly has a TON of depth at key positions, a TON of depth to trade from, and some exciting (Wong, D'Arnaud, Arenado) position players for a change!!

Finally, we move 2B Daniel Murphy and Manny Acosta to the Twins for Of Oswaldo Arcia and 2B/OF Eddie Rosario, two more interesting bats for the AA/AAA team to figure out and a move that allows us to see what Jordany Valdespin can do across a full season at second base.

That's it for now- let me know your thoughts and suggestions while the team remains in a rain delay!!

  11. David:
You can`t trade Dickey for 3 top prospects.
You can`t trade Manny Accosta and Murphy for prospects too.
Come on man. Thats just ridiculous!

    SERIOUSLY MAN?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Then suggest some alternatives! Part of this is to be controversial. And I differ in opinion on Dickey- a pitcher who can get batters to miss the way Dickey can helps the Cards, who have a TON invested in their big league team, contend with the Reds and still leaves them with a top flight minor league org. They have other players at second and in the outfield, and a top flight starter can and WILL generate a package of 3 players; thing Roy and Cliff with the Phils! The prospects the Mets are getting back are actually a notch lower then what the phils and jays got, which is to be expected b/c Dickey is not at their level. However, Dickey means the Cards are right back in the race and competing for another World Series, which is what that team right now is set up to do. Furthermore, have you looked at those Twin prospects? Both are having down years, and the Twins desperately need a second baseman and another bat in that order, and one that is financially reasonable, as Murphy is. He can also DH, in addition to playing either second or third, making him far more valuable to the Twins then the Mets.

It's easy to criticize- let's see you propose some trades in return??

    ReplyDelete
  13. Why would you sign someone to an extensions only to trade him 5 minutes later?

Sorry man, but this plan makes no sense to me. Hey, at least it was funny!

  14. sorry... I was offline since Friday

According to Adam Rubin: Although general manager Sandy Alderson publicly said last week a formal budget has not been established for next season, the Mets are likely to have a payroll comparable to the slightly more than $90 million they have committed in 2012, according to a person briefed on the current internal planning.

If this is true, and the Mets do renew both David Wright and RA Dickey’s contract, well, here’s looking at your team.

Cot has the team at $54,475mil. Add $16mil for Wright and it’s $70,475mil. Add RA at $5mil and Jon Rauch at, let’s say, $4mil, we’re now at $79,475.mil.

So, you dump Mike Pelfrey’s $5,6875mil (replaced with Matt Harvey), Andres Torres ($2.7mil), Ramon Ramirez ($2.65mil), Kelly Shoppach ($1.35mil), Tim Byrdak ($1mil) and Manny Acosta (875K).

You re-sign Ronny Cedeno at around $2mil, Scott Hairston at say, $3mil. This brings you in at around $82,575mil.

Your 25-man (two over) at this point is:

Rotation (6) Santana, Dickey, Niese, Harvey, Young, Gee

Pen – (7) Francisco, Rauch, Edgin, Parnell, Carson, Familia, Mejia

IF –(6) Davis, Murphy, Tejada, Wright, Cedeno, Turner

OF – (6) Bay, Hairston, Duda, Baxter, Valdespin, Nieuwenhuis

    C – (2) Thole, Johnson

You now have around $18mil to go after someone like Michael Bourn and a couple of secondary players. You still have to deal with that fact that most of the FAs are going to be offered more by other teams, and most of the agents advise their players not to sign with the Wilpons, but this is basically your 2013 team. Around 80 wins.
