P Jose Valverde - Following the 2009 season, Valverde filed for free agency, rejecting the Astros' offer of salary arbitration. On January 19, 2010, Valverde signed a two-year, $14 million contract, with a third year team option for $9 million with the Detroit Tigers

IF Prince Fielder - Following the 2011 World Series, Fielder became a free agent. On January 26, 2012 Fielder agreed to a nine-year, $214 million contract with the Detroit Tigers to play first base and replace the offensive output of the injured Víctor Martínez
