- MLB.com's Lou Brock writes that the San Diego Padres would like to add two SPs but will not take a chance on injury risks. (Another team that could be a potential trade target for RA Dickey if negotiations take a turn)
- According to Ken Rosenthal C Russell Martin is receiving significant interest from both the Seattle Mariners and the Pittsburgh Pirates and although the New York Yankees want him back they may have to financial fight to keep him. (Wow...I never thought i would hear about a bidding war between those three teams.)
- Speaking of the Yankees, according to Mark Feinsand of the Daily News, the team has not spoken yet with OF Ichiro Suzuki and have not make any offers to ANY position players at this point in time. Meanwhile SP Andy Pettite has announced that he will play in 2013 if he can reach a new agreement with the Yanks. (This is just a formality for the Yanks. They always go after pitching first then position players follow.)
- CBS Sports John Heyman is reporting that CL Johnathan Broxton and the Cinncinnati Reds have agreed to a 3 year/$21MM deal that will allow the Reds to move P Aroldis Chapman to the starting rotation. (Watch out folks....if you thought the Reds were good last year, they may be the National League favorites in 2013.)
- Ken Davidoff via Twitter spoke with 3B David Wright after the news broke yesterday about negotiations heating up and while he DID NOT say that the reports were false, he was displeased that the nature of the negotiations became public and declined to comment further as he wishes to keep negotiations private and confidential. Reports indicate that a 6 year/$100MM extension and a 7 year extension/$129MM have been offered. Both could include deferred money similar to the deals Carlos Beltran and Johan Santana signed.
- Philadelphia Phillies C Carlos Ruiz has been suspended 25 games for a performance enhancing drug. The team has also signed C Humberto Quintero and IF Pete Orr to minor league deals. Jim Salisbury
- The Washington Nationals are now expected to non-tender SP John Lannan and Will Ladson believes that he would be a perfect fit for the Mets. (Absolutely...minus the fact that he starting rotation is already extremely crowded and he is expected to make around $5MM through arbitration. Even with a 50% pay cut he would be too expensive to just be pitching depth in AAA.)
- The Atlanta Braves are expected to non-tender SP Jair Jurrjens and could non-tender RP Peter Moylan as well according to David O'Brien Twitter. Jurrjens was expected to net $5.5MM through arbitration and Moylan is only expected to grab $800k. (Moylan is coming off back to back shortened seasons back for me he is a no-brainer target for the Mets. He has a career 2.59 ERA and has 3 80+ appearance seasons. He can be had on a minor league deal. As for Jurrjens he was downright awful last but he is only 26 and will probably sign for cheap in order to re-gain value. I'm inclined to give him a shot as a late inning reliever. I dont know why but I have a feeling he would be darn good in that role if he was open to it.)

ReplyDeleteHot stove season, love it
ReplyDeleteI really thought that Pete Orr was going to be a great ballplayer. He looked like the real deal when he was in the Braves organization. You just never know...
