So far, we have
identified five outfielders on five teams ripe for picking:
Atlanta – Reed Johnson
Arizona
– A.J. Pollock
Baltimore – Nolan Reimold
Boston
– Jerry Sands
Chicago
Cubs – Brett Jackson
I spend no time here
trying to figure out who to trade them or whether the Mets should just keep
checking the waiver wire each day to see if my choice becomes available. All I
do here is try to duplicate, for you, what I assume someone (with a VP on his business
card) is doing in the Mets office this week.
We now move on to the
Chicago White Sox, who currently have seven (7) outfielders on their 40-man:
Jordan
Danks – lefty – pre-ARB – MLB67/67-AB, .224 -
Alejando
De Aza – lefty – ARB-1 – MLB/524-AB, .281 -
Jared
Mitchell – lefty – pre-ARB - #9 prospect – ETA: 2013 -
Alex
Rios – bats right – $13mil/2013 & 2014 – MLB/605-AB, .304, 25-HR -
Blake
Tekotte – lefty – pre-ARB – MLB/49-AB – AAA: .243
Dayan
Viciedo – bats right – pre-ARB – MLB/505-AB, .255, 25-HR -
Dewayne
Wise – lefty - $700K/2013 – MLB/163-AB, .258 –
Prospects on the way:
#1 Prospect – Trayce Thompson – ETA: 2014 – bats right
The White Sox have
three starters in place (De Aza, Rios, Viciedo) and all the pre-season hype is
surrounding prospect Mitchell. Forget the other three guys (they’re all
lefties)… it’s one of the starters that get bumped, first for Mitchell and then
for their next prospect, Trayce Thompson.
Mets target: Dayan Viciedo –
signed as international free agent in 2009… also plays 3B… will play 2013 as a 24-year old… 25 HR/78-RBI
in 2012…
For those reasons -- 24, inexpensive -- that I doubt Chicago would pull the trigger. However, if they were willing to talk, I'll bet the price is mighty steep. The Mets could ill afford another starting pitcher from the current rotation to leave (forget Niese), so that would leave the also-rans like Mejia, Familia, Gorski, Hefner, McHugh, etc. That wouldn't likely be enough when the guy has already hit 25 HRs at the big league level. Now if it was Flores plus one of those pitchers -- that might do it.
ReplyDeletewell, he's not going to get enough at bats here unless they DH him
