Nick Cafardo wrote in the Boston Globe:

Johan Santana, LHP, Mets, Vernon Wells, OF, Angels, and Alfonso Soriano, OF, Cubs — Their teams would love to move them, and are willing to pick up most of the freight. The Mets would help pay the $31 million left on Santana’s deal. As teams start to round off rotations, he could be a good fifth arm.

I just don’t see this at this point in the pre-season. Right now, the Mets don’t have a 5-man rotation with Santana. Why would you want to pay the lion share of someone you need on the mound every five days? Now, keep him and pitch him every 6^th day so he’s still healthy come the all-star break. Then, go call some of those agent that represent some of those outfielders I mentioned yesterday that become free agents come October. Work out a verbal sign-and-trade with both the agent and the club and go get yourself someone like David Murphy, Coco Crisp, Rajai Davis, Jacoby Ellsbury, Curtis Granderson, Chris Young, Shin-Soo Choo, or David DeJesus


Matt Garrioch  over at Minor League Ball did have an interesting spin on the upcoming draft in June. He believes that Houston will start off the draft by once again under-slotting like they did a year ago. His first pick overall was SS Chris Rivera, not one of the big names everyone else keeps projecting (Mark Appel, Austin Meadows, Clint Frazier, Sean Manaea). His Mets pick was RHP Jon Crawford, who I have projected out to become a reliever. I hope he’s wrong about this one.
