#15 CF Matt Den Dekker
Bats: L Throws: L
Height: 6' 1" Weight: 205 lb
Acquired: 2010 draft, 5th round, University of Florida
2012: (AA/AAA) ..274/.321/.458, 17 HR, 76 RBI, 21 SB (70), 34 BB, 154 K
2011: (A+/AA) .265/.337/.460, 17 HR, 68 RBI, 24 SB (71%), 51 BB, 156 K
2010: (R/A) .336/.396/.459, 0 HR, 20 RBI, 3 SB (100%), 11 BB, 33 K
Den Dekker had two separate seasons within 2012. He scourched the AA Eastern League pitchers to the tune of a .340 AVG and a .563 SLG. Once he was promoted to AAA Buffalo things became exponentially tougher. #UpperDecker lost .300 points of OPS, his K rates flew up to 30% and his BB rate fell to 4.4%. His defensive abilities as CF pretty much guarantees that Den Dekker will have a MLB job as at least a late inning defensive replacement however his chances as a starter are all dependent on whether or not he will be able to even those K and BB rates back to the AA levels of roughly 8% BB rate and 20% K rate while maintain his isolated power rate of .223 which would be excellent for an MLB CF.
Anticipated Assignment: (AAA) Las Vegas starting CF [No call up till September]
dD always starts slow at a new level and he's gone thru that already in AAA. I expect him to put early pressure on TC to make changes in Queens.
ReplyDeleteI predict two areas that will break down (I'll talk more about this in my prediction post before the regular season starts) but one will be the outfield. I expect the current Queens crew to be sub-par and get off to a poor start which could trigger a knee-jerk reaction by calling Dekker up.
I am big on Den Dekker. I see him leveling off, just not this season. He could be the CF in Queens foe many years. Add to that Nimmo and the OF should be fine. Good read, as always, Mack.
ReplyDeleteI agree Mack. I think dD is going to be a May call up after Byrd gets injured or is DFA'd. Expect to see some nice numbers in Vegas from dD but I'll be more interested in the strikeout rate.
ReplyDeleteIMO....I believe both Kirk and UpperDecker have the ability to be serviceable average OF'ers and bat in the 6 or 7 range.
ReplyDeleteI feel that by July it'll be Baxter in LF, DD in CF, Kirk in RF.
I have a bad feeling Duda will get injured in LF.
Nice defensive OF Soto.
ReplyDeleteHigh K guys always scare me. Hopefully the staff can straighten him out a bit this spring.
it wouldn't kill the Mets to start off with some good defensive baseball...
