#20 OF Cory Vaughn
Bats: R Throws: R
Height: 6' 3" Weight: 225 lb
Acquired: 2010 Draft, 4th round, San Diego State University

2012: (A+) .243/.351/.463, 23 HR, 69 RBI, 21 SB (84%), 65 BB, 114 K
2011: (A/A+) .255/.362/.402, 13 HR, 59 RBI, 10 SB (55%), 59 BB, 117 K
2010: (SS-A) .307/.396/.557, 14 HR, 56 RBI, 12 SB (70%), 34 BB, 63 K

Well at age 23 the book is now out on Cory Vaughn. Even though he possesses a strong eye, pure power, good speed, and a strong arm, he's just one tool short of being a "5 tool" premium prospect. Unfortunately for the Mets that's the ability to make contact. His career .236 batting average in Advanced Single A would sink most prospects. He'll be playing at age 24 this season so time is pretty much almost up for Vaughn if he wants to prove that he can be a big leaguer. At most now all we can hope for is a big time power hitter in the mold of Toronto's RF Jose Bautista.

Anticipated Assignment: (AA) Binghamton starting RF

  1. ???

The most we can hope for in Cory is to be like Jose Bautista???

That sounds pretty good to me.

And also extremely unlikely. Bautista is a premier power hitter.

  2. Low avg. high k rate. Not going to improve against better AA pitching.

  3. This is where we separate the wine from the dregs. I think Vaughn's 20-20 season in the pitcher friendly FSL is encouraging, as is raising his stats at advanced single A considerably from 2011 to 2012. Let's wait and see with Cory.
