B-Mets 7 - Portland 3

B-Mets Even Series with 7-3 Win

BINGHAMTON, NY – The B-Mets scored seven unanswered runs and battled through a 37-minute rain delay en route to a 7-3 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium.

Portland took an early lead against B-Met starter Logan Verrett. An RBI double from Tony Thomas in the first, and an inside-the-park home run by Heiker Meneses in the second put the Sea Dogs up 2-0. Verrett settled down after the first two frames however, and allowed just one hit over his final four innings. He began the seventh inning, but was relieved by Jack Leathersich after surrendering a two-out walk to Peter Hissey.

Binghamton’s offense began in the fourth inning against Portland starter Drake Britton. After the first two batters had been retired, Cory Vaughn got the rally started with a line drive single up the middle. Cesar Puello then tripled down the right field line to put Binghamton on the board. After Danny Muno walked, Britton threw a wild pitch, allowing Puello to score and tie the game. Francisco Pena then gave the B-Mets the lead with an RBI double to left field.

The game moved along quickly until the bottom of the seventh, where it was halted for 37 minutes due to a rain delay. After the break, the B-Mets tacked on four more runs in the eighth to boost the lead up to 7-2. Jeff Walters gave up one run in the top of the ninth, but finished the game to earn his third save of the season.

The B-Mets (7-5) will play their first rubber match of the season Wednesday night against Portland at NYSEG Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6:35 PM, with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show beginning at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
