LAST GAME: The B-Mets topped the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 4-3 in the first game of the four-game series. Binghamton had to play catch-up after Tyler Pill’s smooth start ran into a bumpy patch in the third. Ricardo Nanita started by stroking a double to center and scored two batters later on Amadeo Zazueta’s RBI single to left in the third. Kevin Pillar doubled the lead later in the inning with an RBI hit under Wilfredo Tovar’s glove at short. The B-Mets struck back in the fourth against Ryan Tepera. Cesar Puello roped a triple to left field, and Danny Muno drove him home with a single. Ricardo Nanita extended the New Hampshire lead with a solo home run in the fourth, but the B-Mets scored three runs to take the lead for good in the sixth. Cory Vaughn, Danny Muno, and Alonzo Harris all doubled in the inning. After Pill threw the first six frames, the combination of John Church, Chase Huchingson, and Jeff Walters threw a scoreless inning each. Walters threw the ninth and earned his fourth save of the season.

BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Erik Goeddel makes his third start for the B-Mets in 2013. His last start was also against New Hampshire, where he received the loss. He went 4.1 innings and gave up two runs, although he only gave up one hit in an eventual 6-1 defeat. He struck out seven but struggled to find the strike zone at times, walking four hitters. He won his first outing of 2013 against Erie. He gave up two runs on eight hits through six innings. Goedell was drafted by the New York Mets in the 24th round of the 2010 draft out of UCLA.

NEW HAMPSHIRE STARTING PITCHER: RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx makes his fourth start of the season with the Fisher Cats. His last start was against the B-Mets, and it was his worst of 2013. He gave up six runs in 4.2 innings, and also walked four. The New Hampshire Opening Day starter enters this start with a 1-2 record and a 3.57 ERA. Bibens-Dirkx is in his first season in the Toronto organization, his fourth organization in his career. Previously he as played in the Cubs, Nationals, Rockies, and Mariners farm systems. Originally, he was drafted by Seattle in the 16th round of the 2006 draft our of the University of Portland.
DOUBLE-TAKE: In last night’s win, the B-Mets hit a season-high five doubles. Francisco Pena, Cory Vaughn, Danny Muno, Alonzo Harris, and Rhyne Hughes each tallied a two-bagger in the game. It was the first time since they had hit five doubles in a game since 7/8/12 @ ALT.

MUNO PACES OFFENSE: After going 1-for-20 during the seven-game homestand, Danny Muno started the roadtrip with two hits and three RBI. Muno hit a two-run double in the sixth to tie the game at three.



PITCHING SETTLES DOWN: After giving up two runs in the third inning, and a solo home run in the fourth, B-Met starter Tyler Pill got into a groove. He retired the final seven batters he faced, and the bullpen kept up the momentum. As a staff, they retired 12 straight Fisher Cats until Brad Glenn singled in the eighth inning.

WALTERS: SAVE LEADER: Last night, Jeff Walters faced just four hitters in the ninth for his fourth save of the season. He is now 4-for-4 in save chances in 2013, and leads the league in that category. In each of the last three Binghamton victories, Walters has recorded a save.

ALTERNATING RESULTS: Since losing two consecutive games from 4/9 - 4/11, the B-Mets have alternated wins and losses. Binghamton is 4-4 during that stretch.
