Mets relievers have posted a 3.28 ERA (nine earned runs/24.2 innings), the fifth-lowest mark in the National League

No one knows when SP Shaun Marcum will be ready. Doesn’t it seem that Mets pitcher’s healing process just slow down when they become Mets? This has to be more than the player. I’m afraid we have seen what an average Laffey outing is going to be like so the pen has to be well rested before he takes the mound. Zack Wheeler is showing that he’s far from ready and there really isn’t anyone else in the system that would hold up will under these circumstances.  I guess they could try Carlos Torres (3.18) or Darin Gorski (3.60), but we’re really stretching now (note: he threw a 30-pitch bullpen session yesyerday without any problem).

Las Vegas is obviously trying to re-establish a position in the infield for Reese Havens, who is finally both healthy and hitting (.357). He's now over at 3B after coming out of school at SS and eventually moving to 2B.

Buck on pace to hit 90 home runs with 270 RBI this season

There really isn’t that much more we can say about John Buck right now. To a great extent, he is the Mets offense, especially in badly played games. He’s going to bring quite the prize come the all-star break. Oh yes, he’ll be traded, because what he is doing right now isn’t enough to make this a playoff team in 2013

Get used to this folks. It's going to be a long year if the Mets can't get six innings out of their starters. TC already said going into Wednesday's game that his pen was 'spent'. Having Jeffrey Hefner go only three innings isn't going to help matters. We already discussed the thin rotation... well, the pen is no letter and no one in Las Vegas can solve that right now.

  1. The rotation looks to be "Niese, Harvey, and hide the sharp objects" for now.

On the plus side, all our big SPs down on the farm other than Wheeler are off to a great start.

  2. Mack, do you have any info on Alex Panteliodis and Carlos Vazquez?

  3. Jonah - both are on the Savannah DL - I tend to think they are 'phantom' injuries... just too many pitchers in the chain right now

  5. Thanks Mack.

So it is possible that Panteliodis will be activated when needed the
    6th starter on Monday.

Do you happen to know why Binghamton is using a 5 man rotation. Thought they would be using 6.

  6. Wheeler isn't ready...I can wait until June for him. His blister problem should be resolved by then. Things will start to get interesting around June 16.
