Q and A - Contract Extensions

I really liked how the Mets gave Jon Niese a favorable 7-year deal.  I equally liked how the Rays gave Matt Moore an 8-year deal after only a few starts.  Do you see the Mets attempting this with Wheeler, Syndergaard, Davis, d'Arnaud and any new young players they bring in?  It not only brings stability to the organization knowing they'll be together for 7-8 years, it's also a chance to get players well below market and saves the team money.

I left Harvey out and I know with Boras as his agent he's going to free agency.

Mack Ade

2013 is Ike Davis's first ARB year... if he performs well, he's get offered an extension through at least 2016.

Extensions usually are for people entering arbitration.

2013 is the first arbitration year for Dan Murphy, Bobby Parnell

2014 is the ARB-1 year for Dillon Gee, Ruben Tejada, Justin Turner, and Mike Baxter.

IMO, these would be the first guys to target.

Me?

I sign Davis today, but need to see another year of both Gee and Tejada

  1. I can see the Mets extending Tejada during this season. I'm hoping he performs well enough to make it worthwhile.

  2. A good start today in the right directio, but, frankly, it's all on him right now.

I too hope they sign him. The Mets have so many bigger fish to fry.
