Q and A - Draft... Jayce Boyd
Gary Seagren asked -
Hi Mack , As always great stuff on your site and by FAR the best blog. O.K.
Two questions: how would you allocate the draft dollars we have and as far as interviews how about Jayce Boyd.
I loved the first two games we played of course and 3-2 thru 5 games is fine for now but oh that defense and of course the bullpen. Look I know its a really small sample size but boy those 2 things can kill us. TC is talking mix and match in CF and RF but he really needs to put Cowgill out there for at least a couple of weeks and not just a couple of games for him to show what he can do. The wild card is of course Spin but he can look both amazin and awful from moment to moment but I still see him in RF in the not to distant future to see what he can really do if only for a trade possibility in July. If its me I gotta have defense. At least I finally have some confidence in Parnell but my fingers are crossed. Anyway I cant wait till next weekend when the St. Lucie club comes to Bradenton. Catch you next week and Lets go Mets, Gary Seagren
Mack - you and I have talked about this on the phone.
The Mets need to slot or overslot their first three picks like the Nats and Boston do. You don't always make the right decision (Matt Purke, Anthony Renaudo), but it's the best chance of finding a Jackie Bradley Jr. (yes, we could have had him) and having him already in Queens.
Look, I love high school talent, but this is a team that needs positional players NOW and drafting someone that is only playing either A-ball or is still in extended camp isn't the way to go.
Draft someone like OF Austin Wilson out of UCLA and he'll be in Queens in 2015.
Interview wise, most of the requests I have had is for Brandon Nimmo so I'm going to attempt to set that one up first. I will follow that on the next home stance with Boyd.
Call me if you have any specific questions you want me to ask him.
Do you mean the Austin Wilson who plays at Stanford?
