Please note the following transactions involving the Binghamton Mets
April 15:
- LHP Adam Kolarek transferred from Binghamton (AA) to Las Vegas (AAA)
- RHP Cory Mazzoni placed on disabled list (right elbow neuritis), retroactive to April 11
- RHP Luis Mateo transferred from St. Lucie (High-A) to Binghamton (AA)
- LHP Shawn Teufel transferred from Extended Spring Training to Binghamton (AA)
Mateo and Montero will be top trade fodder by the end of the year if not July.
ReplyDeleteThe Mets are in no rush to move Montero.
DeleteWell, remember Michael...
ReplyDeleteWe still need to round out our own rotation.
Harvey, Wheeler, Niese... and then... ?
We only need two more. I'm penciling in Syndergaard for one of those slots. Assuming there are no extensions given out over the next three seasons, that top 4 will cost $6.5M, $8.5M, $9.5M in 2014, 2015, 2016. All five starters don't need to be homegrown youngsters, the team can spend some of those savings on a fifth pitcher.
ReplyDeleteThe acquisition of Syndergaard was a seachange as far as depth in the system. The Mets can trade Montero and Mateo and not even feel it with Syndergaard and Fulmer on the back burner. They have to trade a couple of these live arms to balance out the offense.
well, my two are Montero and Syner; however, let's remember... 2 years ago the hot names were Mejia amd Familia. At this point you pretty much have to throw up your hands at both of them and move on.
ReplyDeleteYou just don't know at this point in the growth of these guys, Michael. You just don't know.
I can't agree with you Mack, I don't think the comparison works. Jerry Manuel eff'd up Mejia's arm with Omar's blessing...I don't see that happening under our current brain trust. And Familia was highly regarded in Mets circles as a potential starter in the majors. The rest of MLB was so-so on him, as his highest rating by BA was #90.
ReplyDeleteScouts from other teams gush about Syndergaard's stuff and he's already cracked the Top 30.
I'm not saying that Wheeler and Syndergaard are definite stars, I think they are the two with the highest likelihood of success and aim comfortable dealing the other pitchers away for bats. We have much more reason to have faith in Wheeler and Syndergaard than we ever did in Familia.

ReplyDeleteIf the Mets wait it out for too long, the music is going to stop and there won't be enough chairs left. They'll be trading for the Coco Crisps and Cody Ross's of the world.
ReplyDeleteWe're getting to omelette making time and some eggs are going to have to be broken.
you have me confused... you're trading pitchers that are projected in 2014 but now say the team needs to move faster...
ReplyDeleteand about the Mejia comparison... did you ever hear about being hit by a bus?
Shit hapens Michael and dominant pitchers (Cohoon - Owen - etc, ) just don't turn out.
I don't know where the confusion comes in.
ReplyDeleteWheeler makes it up later this year. Syndergaard makes it up same time next year. Mets keep both and only have one hole to fill. Montero and Mateo are dominating for now, so sell high. The longer they're held onto the longer there is a chance for injury or just plain not making it.
Did Dylan Owen dominate anything other than the NYPL? With Montero and Mateo we're talking about mid-to-upper level minors.
Montero is impressing scouts and has outstanding command. He's as likely to be an effective major league starter as any other prospect in the system, including Wheeler, who has better stuff but without the plus command.
