Various Las Vegas "Stuff"




LAS VEGAS: The Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, will host the Tacoma Rainiers, Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, in a brief four-game homestand from Thursday-Sunday, April 25-28 at Cashman Field.

HOMETOWN HEROES NIGHT – FRIDAY, APRIL 26:
              51s Hometown Heroes T-Shirt Night, to the first 2,500 fans through the gates, will be presented in game two of the four-game series on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
                The 51s organization will conduct a special pre-game ceremony dedicated to recognize, support and to thank our emergency service providers including the police, fire and emergency medical providers of Southern Nevada. The “Color Guard Ceremony” will feature members of the Police and Fire Departments and including ceremonial first pitches for participating police and fire departments.
                Individual police officers, firefighters and emergency personnel who have dedicated their lives to helping others will be acknowledged during the announcements and scoreboard recognition for the community outreach programs supported by the police, firefighters and emergency medical providers (ie, food drives, public safety campaigns, volunteer services) will be presented.
                The 51s will have a special “thank you” announcement for the families of our local Hometown Heroes and “emergency” vehicles will be on display in front of Cashman Field.

                “We thank all of the areas first responders and the important jobs they all serve for the safety of our entire community,” 51sGeneral Manager Chuck Johnson said.  “We are excited to acknowledge the members of the police, fire and emergency medical providers for this special night at Cashman Field.”


The following is the Departments & Organizations with ties to First Responders who will be at Cashman Field:
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department; City of North Las Vegas Police Department; City of Henderson Police Department; Nevada Department of Public Safety – Highway Patrol Division; Crime Prevention and Community Relations - Clark County School District Police Department; Friends of Las Vegas Metro Police Department Foundation; Injured Police Officers Fund; CPAAN (Citizens Police Academy Alumni North); Clark County Fire Department; City of Las Vegas Fire Department; City of North Las Vegas Fire Department; City of Henderson Fire Department; Firefighters of Southern Nevada Burn Foundation.

                The 51s, under manager Wally Backman, are concluding their second road trip of the 2013 campaign on Tuesday evening (weather permitting) at Colorado SpringsColo., against the Sky Sox, Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.  Las Vegas, 10-8, is in first place in the Pacific Southern Division.

                2013 ATTENDANCE: In 8 dates, Las Vegas’ total is 33,151 for an average of 4,144. The Las Vegas franchise has reached the 300,000 plateau in “home” attendance in all 30 seasons (1983-2012) and the all-time attendance total now stands at 10,019,665. Las Vegas’ season-high crowd was 9,247 against Colorado Springs for the “home opener” on April 12 at Cashman Field.  The 51sorganization have the proud distinction of being the longest enduring franchise in the history of professional sports in the state ofNevada

                Budweiser Dollar Beer Night will be presented in Thursday’s series opener at 7:05 p.m.  Every Thursday home game throughout the 2013 campaign will feature “Dollar Beers.”  Proper identification and wristbands are required for dollar beer night.

Las Vegas Second Homestand Release. . . .2-2-2-2


                Mets Style Jersey Night will be featured on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.  A replica of the classic 1969 New York Mets jersey will be given away to the first 2,500 fans through the gates.

                The finale of the homestand on Sunday, April 28 will feature “Little League Day” at 12:05 p.m. and selected 51s players will be available to sign pre-game autographs for the Little League teams in attendance. In addition, all children will have the opportunity to “Run the Bases” at the conclusion of the contest (with proper shoe attire).

                Tacoma’s roster features five of the top 10 prospects in the Mariners organization, according to Baseball America: top prospect, catcher Mike Zunino; left-handed pitcher Danny Hultzen (No. 3); left-handed pitcher James Paxton (No. 4); second baseman/shortstop Nick Franklin (No. 5) and infielder Stefen Romero (No. 8). Outfielder Eric Thames, who played for the 51s from 2011-12, is also a member of the Tacoma roster. He is batting .347 with 4 home runs and 10 RBI.

                The 51s will broadcast all games on Lotus Broadcasting on Fox Sports Radio 920 AM, which will carry live all 144 regular season games. Also, all games will be available on the 51s website (Major League Baseball Advanced Media, MLBAM) atwww.LV51.com.  Russ Langer, the eight-time Nevada Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA), is in his 14th season behind the microphone calling 51s baseball.              
                All 51s games will also be broadcast on MiLB.TV via LV51.com.

                Following the homestand, Las Vegas will embark on an eight-game road trip to Northern Nevada and Northern California. Las Vegas will travel to Aces Ballpark to face the PCL and Triple-A defending champions, the Reno Aces, Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, in a four-game series from Monday-Thursday, April 29 – May 2. The 51s will then travel to SacramentoCalif., to face division-rival, the River Cats, Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland A’s, in a four-game series from Friday-Monday, May 3-6.

                In 2009, Las Vegas and Reno developed the Silver State Diamond Challenge and the “Silver Plate Trophy” to add to the excitement to the rivalry for the two PCL teams that represent the state of Nevada.


CHAMPION OF THE SILVER STATE DIAMOND CHALLENGE:
2009: Las Vegas 51s (series tied 8-8 and won the “Draw of the Cards” between the two Mayors)
2010: Reno Aces (Reno won series 11-games-to-5)
2011: Reno Aces (series tied 8-8, Aces retain trophy)
2012: Reno Aces (series tied 8-8, Aces retain trophy)  

                Tickets for all 51s home games can be purchased at the Cashman Field box office. The box office is open Monday-Friday (non game days) from Noon to 4:30 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased through Ticketmaster (1-800-745-3000,www.ticketmaster.com). Ticketmaster outlets are located at selected Smith’s Food & Drug.

                The individual game tickets for the 72-game home season are priced at $10.00 (reserved, $11.00-Day of Game); $13.00(plaza, $14.00-Day of Game) and $14.00 (field, $15.00-Day of Game). The traditional $2.00 discount for Military personnel is offered on plaza and reserved seats throughout the season except for the “Fireworks Extravaganza” on Wednesday, July 3 (all seats are priced at $15.00 for this special event).
