LAST GAME: The B-Mets launched three home runs and struck out 15 Harrisburg Senators in a 6-1 victory Sunday afternoon. Josh Rodriguez set the tone early against Caleb Clay. In the first inning, he blasted a two-run shot to give Binghamton a 2-0 lead. Mark Cohoon held Harrisburg in check in his second start of the season. He earned the win after throwing 5.0 shutout innings. In the sixth, the B-Mets scored two more runs on a Danny Muno single and a solo home run by Richard Lucas. After the Senators scored their lone run in the seventh, but the B-Mets responded in the eighth inning with two more runs. Alonzo Harris hit his fourth home run of the season, and Cesar Puello knocked in the final run with an RBI single. Binghamton won their first rubber match of the season.

BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Cory Mazzoni makes his second start of the season, and his first since 4/5 @ AKR. He has spent the last 24 games on the DL due to right elbow neuritis. In his only start, he received a no-decision after throwing five innings against the Akron Aeros. He allowed one unearned run, and gave up four base hits in an eventual 2-1 victory. In 2012, Mazzoni was split between St. Lucie and Binghamton. In 12 starts in the Florida State League, he 5-1 with a 3.25 ERA. In 14 starts with the B-Mets, he went 5-5 with a 4.46 ERA. Last year, he made two starts against Trenton. He went 0-1 in 12.0 innings on the hill, and gave up 4 runs. Cory was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2011 draft by the Mets out of North Carolina State.

TRENTON STARTING PITCHER: LHP Matt Tracy makes his sixth start of the season for the Thunder. He earned the win in his last start; he gave up four runs on eight hits over six innings. Tracy has given up at least four earned runs in every start except one. On 4/13 v RIC, he threw five shutout innings in a 3-0 win. In 2012, he spent all but one start with High-A Tampa. In 18 starts, he went 5-7 with a 3.27 ERA. He made one start at the end of the season with Triple-A Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre. Tracy was drafted in the 24th round of the 2011 draft by the Yankees out of the University of Mississippi.

SEASON HIGH: In yesterday’s 6-1 victory over Harrisburg, the B-Met offense hit a season-high three home runs. For the year, Binghamton has now hit 18 round-trippers. The pitching staff also struck out a season-high 15 batters. As a staff, they rank fourth in the league with 252 strikeouts.

TOP OF THE ORDER: All of the offense in yesterday’s win was produced by the top five hitters in the lineup. They combined to go 10-for-19 with six RBI, and all six runs scored. The bottom four slots combined to go 0-for-16..


PUELLO HITS IN A DOZEN STRAIGHT: Cesar Puello went 1-4 yesterday to push his hitting streak to a B-Met season-high 12 games. This is the third hitting streak that has gone at least 10 games this year (Alonzo Harris, 10/ Allan Dykstra, 10).

JACK MISSING BATS: Jack Leathersich struck out three batters in a scoreless ninth inning yesterday. This was the seventh consecutive appearance for Leathersich where he has struck out at least three hitters. In 15.0 innings, Jack has punched out 27 batters.

SERIES VICTORY: The B-Mets went 2-1 vs Harrisburg, and won their first series since 4/18 - 4/21 @ New Hampshire. The B-Mets are 3-3-2 in series in 2013.

AGAINST TRENTON: This is the first of five series against Trenton in 2013. Last year the B-Mets went 6-7 against the Thunder.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets and Thunder continue their three-game series Tuesday night. RHP Rafael Montero is scheduled to pitch against RHP Jose Ramirez. First pitch is at 7:05 PM with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show starting at 6:40 PM on WNBF.
