Mets Draft Target - RHSP - Ryne Stanek

RHSP Ryne Stanek is a 6-4, 190 pound pitching machine out of Overland Park, Kansas.

He has all the pitches... 93-96 FB, mid-80s + + slider, solid curve. Only his change-up is a pitch needing more work.

Stanek started out the mock season as one of the top 5 picks, but lost ground mainly due to others passing him because of what they did, not because Stanek failed at doing what he's supposed to do. IMO, a solid SP3-4 candidate.

2013 stat line (as of 5-7): 12-starts, 6-2, 1.87, 67.1-IP, 59-K, 26-BB, .220 B/Ave

He gets very good movement on his fastball. It isn’t a dominant pitch but it is a very good fastball he can work off of to set up his other offerings. His breaking ball looked more like a curve in the past and wasn’t as good as the more recent slider he has been using. His arm slot is a ¾ delivery and the slider can be a plus pitch. It usually is in the 84-87 MPH range. His change is also in the 85-87 MPH range and has some fade. It is an average offering and it could improve. He has good command and incredible poise on the mound

http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2012/07/20/2013-mlb-draft-profile-ryne-stanek/ - Ryne Stanek was a 3rd round selection in the 2010 MLB Draft. With good size and stuff that is great at times, he figures to be one of, if not the, first pitchers selected in 2013.Mid 90′s fastball, tops out at 97 Mid 80′s slider is plus, at times  Curve  Low 80′s change is a good and improving pitch  3/4 arm slot  Mechanics, which have been a cause of concern, are improving

http://www.scoutingbook.com/players/p3352 - Pitching prospect Ryne Stanek is a college righthander who looks very nearly MLB ready, at least as a wipeout reliever. Blessed with easy heat from a textbook projectable pitcher's body, Ryne mixes in a plus slider that would play in the bigs tomorrow. Of course, he's rough around the edges, fighting with control and command issues at times, and struggling to master the changeup he sorely needs to survive as a starting pitcher. Ryne started 17 games for the Razorbacks in 2012, posting an 8-4 record and a 2.82 ERA, while striking out 83 in 93 innings of work.

Downside - Stanek has had some command problems early on this year which will cost him any chance of being a top 10 pick.

ETA:  Anyone that scouts for a living and has spent time watching this guy will tell you that he's almost MLB ready right now. He obviously would start off at least at the A+ level, but how many pitching prospects can the Mets have. In this case, he definitely would be ready for CitiField on opening day 2015. Probably all-star break 2014.
