Mets Minor League Report – May 16

Savannah (22-16) smacks Augusta (23-16) 6-0.
The Sand Gnats broke a scoreless tie with 6 runs in the top of the 11th.
Another absolute gem from Sand Gnat’s starter Rainy Lara (no decision) going 8 scoreless, 2 hit innings, allowing 1 walk with 9 strikeouts. The Mets may be looking forward to many, many Rainy days in Queens in the not too distant future.
Reliever  Bret Mitchell (W, 1-1) pitched 2 scoreless innings: H, BB, 3 K. Beck Wheeler allowed a hit and a walk, with 2 strikeouts, pitching a scoreless bottom of the 11th in the non-save situation.
Pinch hitter  Maikis De La Cruz delivered the go ahead hit, a 2 run single in the top of the 11th.
Jayce Boyd: 2-4, BB, R

Brevard County (21-18) again edges St Lucie (23-15) 3-2.
St. Lucie starter  Noah Syndergaard certainly pitched well enough to win, but took a no decision. 6.2 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 H, 0 BB, 10 K.
After reliever  Hamilton Bennett pitched 1.0 scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk, getting all 3 outs via the strikeout, Randy Fontanez (L, 3-2) came in to close out the 8th inning. Fontanez, however, gave up a leadoff single to start the 9th. He was relieved by  T.J. Chism who promptly gave up a run scoring double to end the game.
Rylan Sandoval: 2-4, 2B,  2RBI.

Binghamton (22-18) not scheduled.

Omaha (20-18) shaves Las Vegas (18-20) 5-4.
51’s starter D.J. Mitchell (L, 1-1) was rocked for 4 ER on 10 hits in his 5.0 innings of work.
Reliever Gonzalez Germen pitched 2 perfect innings. He was followed by Josh Edgin who came in to pitch the 9th and gave up a run on one hit, a double.
Josh Satin: 2-4, 2B, BB, R.
Andrew Brown: 2-4, 3B, BB, 2R.
Eric Campbell: 3-3, 2 RBI.

  1. Edgin seems lost at every level. What a shame.

  2. I wonder what has happened to him.

On a brighter note, Thor was dominant again.

  3. Classic dead arm from being over worked. Edgin was only effective if he could keep the ball down and hide it in his delivery.

  4. With some rest and adjustments, Edgin will be back later in the season. Kid has too much guts to take it lying down.

Meanwhile, you can't help but get excited about Lara. Gets better each step of the way.
