Hickory (18-12) sweeps Savannah (18-11) 4-3 (Game 1) and 5-3 (Game 2)
Game 1 starter Matthew Koch gets a no decision, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing 3 ER, 6 H, (1 HR) with 6 K’s.
Jake Kuebler (L, 0-2) gets the loss, allowing the winning run to score in the bottom of the 8th in this game shortened to accommodate the double header. In his 1.2 innings, he gave up only one hit, a double to Joey Gallo, who then scored on an error by SS Philip Evans.
Chad Zurcher went 2-3, a double and a walk, with 2 runs scored.
Jayce Boyd was 2-3 with an RBI.
Kevin Plawecki went hitless ( one walk) in 4 plate appearances.
Second game starter Luis Cessa (L, 2-2) gets lit up for 5 ER on 8 H (2 HR) with 4 K.
Tim Peterson’s perfect 6th inning was too little, too late, in this 7 inning game. Peterson struck out all 3 batters he faced.
Cole Frenzel, Kevin Plawecki and Jayce Boyd all went 1-3.
Frenzel with a HR, 2 RBI and a R,
Plawecki with a R, dropping his AVG. to .402, and
Boyd with a RBI, his AVG. falling to .382.
Yucary de la Cruz was 1-3 with a double and a run scored
Stefan Sabol went 2-3 with a run scored.
St Lucie (19-11) tops Daytona (16-14) 6-2
T.J. Rivera was 5 for 5, with 2 doubles and a run scored.
Aderlin Rodriguez was 2 for 4, with 2 doubles and 3 RBI.
Starter Hansel Robles (W, 3-1) allowed a run on 2 hits, no walks, and 5 strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work.
Angel Cuan gave up a run on 3 hits (1 HR) with 4 strikeouts in his 2.0 innings.
Making his 4th rehab appearance, Frank Francisco pitched a scoreless 8th inning, with 2 strikeouts. Thus far, Francisco has looked good in all 4 appearances, allowing just a walk.
Finishing up the game, was Randy Fontanez, who pitched a perfect 9th.
Trenton (17-14) blanks Binghamton (16-15) 5-0
I was at tonight’s Binghamton – Trenton game, and I am here to tell you that our B-Mets looked absolutely impotent against the Thunder and pitcher Matt Tracy. The loss broke a second place tie, dropping Binghamton into 3rd place in the Eastern League’s Eastern Division.
Binghamton starter Cory Mazzoni (L, 0-1) just didn’t have it tonight. Although his FB topped out consistently at 95 and 96 MPH, it was flat and hittable. Even his outs were hard hit, several fly balls backing Bingo outfielders to the wall. In 3.0 innings he allowed 5 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits and a walk, with 2 strikeouts.
Shawn Teufel, a sidearming lefty, looked good, especially against left handed batters. He didn’t allow a run in his 3.0 innings, giving up 2 hits and 2 walks, with 3 strikeouts. Adam Kolarek also did not allow a run, giving up but 2 hits in his 2.0 innings, but the damage had already been done by Mazzoni.
Offensively, the Mets were ineffective, getting only 2 hits, one by Darrell Ceciliani and the other by Cesar Puello, while striking out 13 times.
Las Vegas (14-15) @ Sacramento (17-14) suspended (rain).
