LAST GAME: The B-Mets shut out the Trenton Thunder in the series opener, 8-0. Erik Goeddel tossed seven shutout innings and allowed only two hits as he won his fourth consecutive decision. The righty allowed the first two batters of the game to reach base, but then retired the next 16 batters he faced. Meanwhile the offense provided plenty of support against Zach Nuding.Cesar Puello went 3-for-4 with three RBI. He hit a solo shot off the batters eye in centerfield, and also added two doubles in the win. Danny Muno added two doubles and three RBI from the leadoff spot. Wilfredo Tovar knocked three singles and also scored three runs. Goeddel handed things over to the bullpen after seven strong innings. Jack Leathersich and John Church each threw a scoreless inning of relief to finish the game.

 

BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: LHP Mark Cohoon makes his seventh start for the B-Mets this season, and his first against the Thunder. On May 29, he got a no-decision against Altoona after allowing four runs on five hits over five innings. In May, Cohoon went 1-2 with a 3.58 ERA in five starts. One of those losses was a 1-0 defeat on May 23 against New Britain. He threw a complete game, and only allowed a solo home run. Cohoon began the season in the bullpen; the lefty went 2-0 with a 7.11 ERA in relief. At NYSEG Stadium this season, he is 1-1 with a 3.50 ERA in 18.0 innings.
 
TRENTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Mikey O’Brien makes his sixth start of the season for the Thunder. After winning each of his first three starts, he has gotten a no-decision in his last two. O’Brien began the season with High-A Tampa in the Florida State League; he went 1-2 with a 4.39 ERA in six starts. The righty spent all of 2012 with the Thunder. He made 19 starts, and went 5-7 with a 4.20 ERA. He threw in two games against the B-Mets last season (one start). He allowed six runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings and did not receive a decision. He was drafted by the Yankees in the ninth round of the 2008 draft out of Hidden Valley HS (Roanoke, VA).

PUELLO AGAINST THE THUNDER: In four games against Trenton this season, Cesar Puello is 7-for-14. He has four home runs, two doubles, seven RBI, and four runs scored. In the first series in Trenton, Puello drove in every run for the B-Mets (four runs). On Tuesday, he went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, and three RBI.

LOPSIDED VICTORIES: During the current three-game winning streak, Binghamton has outscored their opponents 21-2. They have also outhit the other teams 42-14 during that stretch. Two of those wins have been shutouts, and Binghamton is now on their fourth winning streak lasting at least three games.

BULLPEN SUCCESS: After Jack Leatherisch and John Church each threw a scoreless inning of relief on Tuesday, the B-Met bullpen scoreless streak was extended to 14.1 straight innings. The bullpen’s ERA has been lowered to 3.40.

SCORING WITH TWO OUTS: In their last two games, Binghamton has scored 12 of their 15 runs with two outs. In Tuesday’s win, they scored seven runs with two outs in an inning.

THE STREAK CONTINUES: Josh Rodriguez has now hit safely in 20 consecutive games, stretching back to May 13. He is hitting .421 (32-76) during the streak, and has 17 RBI. The streak matches the longest by anyone in the Eastern League since Justin Christian (RIC) had a 21-game hitting streak stretching from August 2010 to April 2011.

MORE STREAKS: Darrell Ceciliani (11 games) and Richard Lucas (5 games) are both on season-high hitting streaks.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets conclude their three-game series against the Thunder Thursday morning. First pitch is scheduled for 10:35 AM as RHP Cory Mazzoni will throw against LHP Matt Tracy.
