Mets Fall to Clearwater 6-0

 

CLEARWATER, FLA. —  Hobie Milner tossed 7 2/3 shutout innings and the Mets were limited to two hits as they fell to the Clearwater Threshers 6-0 on Wednesday.

Milner allowed a leadoff single to Robbie Shields to left in the third inning. Shields reached third base with out, but was stranded. Milner retired 17 consecutive batters before allowing a two-out walk to Shields in the eighth inning.

T.J. Rivera had a two-out single in the ninth, but was stranded at second.

The Mets had three runners on base all game with Shields reaching twice and Rivera's ninth inning hit.

Rainy Lara suffered his second loss despite allowing just two runs in six innings. Wanel Mesa allowed four runs in two innings of work.

Maikel Franco homered against Lara in the sixth and drilled a two-out, three-run home run in the seventh against Mesa.

The Mets will visit Clearwater for the series finale on Thursday at 7 p.m. Domingo Tapia will make the start for the Mets.
