FLASH - OF - Yasiel Puig

The Dodgers tweet that they will promote outfielder Yasiel Puig. They have optioned pitcher Matt Magill to make room. Puig, 22, was hitting .313/.383/.599 for Double-A Chattanooga. -MLBTR

Michael Scannell and I have both targeted Los Angeles as one of the key teams that could supply the Mets an outfielder in a trade. Michael feels that Joc Peterson would be the way to go, while I'd rather think big and takeover the contract of Carl Crawford ($21mil+ per year through 2017).

I'm getting sick and tired of waiting for prospects to become big time ballplayers. What the Mets could use right now is a good old fashioned signing like Carlos Beltran or Carlos Delgado.

The Dodgers would be 'left' with Matt Kemp ($160mil through 2019), Andre Eithier ($85mil through 2017), Puig ($42mil through 2018) and Peterson would then become their 4th outfielder.

This wouldn't be some salary dump deal. The Mets would have to pay the full ticket for his services plus give up a could of pitching prospects in the deal.

My first offer would be Jordany Valdespin, Domingo Tapia, and Rainy Lara

Interchangeable parts - Wilmer Flores for Valdepsin

                                   Noah Syndergaard for Tapia

                                   Kevin Plawecki for Lara

  2. Mack. Longtime lurker here so I definitely enjoy your work. But have you lost it??? Carl Crawford? ?? If you are taking on his salary LA should be sending us prospects. They have to send you puig and peterson for me to even consider it. 21 mil per year for 4 more makes the bay signing look good.

  3. Yea Mack,

I think your wrong here. Not in the sense for going after Crawford but in the sense that it wont be a salary dump.

I'm all for giving up prospects for Crawford but the Dodgers are going to have to eat a nice LARGE chunk of the contract for me to do it.

  4. Ok... just testing to see if the comments section of the blog was working... :)

BTW Bernard, I have no problem trading three so-called prospects that I may not have a need for, for one positional player I do need.

That's why there are 9 minor league teams. You can use more than one player to trade to fill up the holes in your 25-man squad.

  5. so called prospects?

100mph FB and a 95+ slider is NOT a so called prospect (Tapia)

Being put in the same skill class as Harvey and Wheeler is NOT a so called prospect (Syndergaard)

Dominating FSL teams is NOT a so called prospect (Lara)

Shall I continue? Your trade proposal so beyond imbalanced.

  6. Christopher:

You and I come from two different schools.

(BTW, the Tapia slide hits 97)

everything you say is wonderful but it's all at the A or A+ level.

Do you have any idea how many people I have seen throw 97-100?

Do you have any idea how many people I have been told have a 'high ceiling' or 'his ceiling is as high as..."?

Do you know how much I'm starting to sound like Clint Eastwood?

This is all a moot point.

As I said earlier, I wanted to find out if anyone would ever leave a comment on anything I write again (I write 1000-2000 words a day in my morning report and no one ever says shit).

    Just fooling around :)
