Las Vegas 2 - Fresno 1

Fresno, Calif. - In his Fresno debut, Grizzlies right-handed pitcher Fabio Castillo pitched well for all but two mistakes as the Grizzlies lost 2-1 to the Las Vegas 51s on Saturday at Chukchansi Park.
In a pitching duel with former San Francisco prospect Zack Wheeler, Castillo allowed a two-run home run to Kirk Nieuwenhuis in the third inning for the game-deciding runs. Wheeler preempted Nieuwenhuis' roundtripper with a double off the left-center field wall.
Castillo suffered the loss after surrendering the two runs on six hits and two walks. He also struck out six.
The Nieuwenhuis homer erased the Grizzlies' 1-0 lead built in the second inning. Roger Kieschnick led off the second inning with a single, and he was later driven in on Carter Jurica's two-out RBI single. Jurica had two of the Grizzlies' four hits in the game.
With a lead in tow, Wheeler stymied the Fresno offense. The right-hander allowed one run and three hits over six innings in his fourth win of the season. Wheeler struck out six and walked one.
The Grizzlies bullpen did its job to keep Fresno in the game. Brett Bochy tossed a perfect seventh inning while Dan Runzler allowed one baserunner - a walk - in his two scoreless innings.
David Aardsma struck out two in the ninth inning to tally his second save of the season.
The Grizzlies and 51s will meet in game two of their four-game series on Sunday at 2:05 pm. Right-hander Austin Fleet will start for Fresno and oppose right-hander Matt Fox.
