I know the Mets don’t
want to rush their future and, frankly, I’ve never read up on this Super Two,
or Heavy Two, or whatever the hell it is. What I know is Colin McHugh is not the answer to the Mets problems, just
like Chris Schwinden and so many before him.
Some baseball players are great in high school, college, even every level in
the minor leagues, but the majors represents the top 750 baseball players on
the entire planet. Not everybody can produce at that level.
While we’re at it, Robert Carson is no major league relief pitcher. He
was fantastic at various times in the minors and he’s enjoyable as hell on
Twitter, but he’s proved time and again he’s not one of those top 750 players.
I relay don’t care at this point that the Mets don’t have another lefty ready.
Try Justin Hampson or Sean
Henn. Hit the waiver wire or even dip in to AA-ball. What you know is
what you now have isn’t enough
Keeping a check on our pitching prospects. four stood out last night:
Zack Wheeler threw six solid innings during an away game with normal California Fresno air... 6.0-IP, 1-ER, 3-H, 6-K, 1-BB. Waiting on the phone call.
Binghamton's Rafael Montero, who will take Wheeler's slot in Vegas once Queens calls, was absolutely dominant playing in New Hampshire: 7.0-IP, 0-R, 7-H, 4-K, 1-BB
St. Lucie's Domingo Tapia had a nice return to the pitcher's mound: 5.0-IP, 1-ER, 4-K, 2-BB
Savannah's Luis Cessa had the outing of the night vs. Kannapolis... 7.2-IP, 0-R, 2-H, 10-K, 0-BB. Can't do much better than that.
As we keep saying... the future of this team is in its pitching.

The DSL seasons
started on Saturday and the rosters were added to the MiLB.com page. They’re
usually wrong, but, in this case, it’s not who is on the DSL1 and DSL2 rosters,
but who isn’t. Missing are prospects Leon Canelon,
Admed Rosario, and German Rosario, catchers Jose
Garcia, Adrian Abreu, and Manuel Hilario, third baseman Pedro Perez, and outfielders Vincente
Lupo and Wuilmer Becerra. Both rosters
are short every days players (especially infielders) so I’m sure we’ll see some
of these names filled in; however, it looks like most of the prospects will be
playing either for the GSL or Kingsport Mets this season.
Saturday's openers for both Mets DSL teams resulted in wins. Eucebio Arias and Gregorix Estevas combined for nine scoreless innings. The offense produced only three hits, but one was a 2-RBI single by RF Johanny Sierra.
DSL-2 won 6-3 against the Marlins. which included three hits from 3B Gregory Valencia and a two-run homer from CF Santos Infante.

Met announces keep the heat on:
Not
because they again showed their independence, but for their ability to juice
this compelling story line. Bobby Ojeda said:
“They’re setting up this poor young man (Davis) to fail.” And Gary Cohen questioned why the organization leaked so
much information to the media about Collins’ meeting with Davis and Tejada
before it even took place. “(With the Mets) there’s more leaking than in
(Washington) D.C.,” Keith Hernandez said during
Subway Series Game 3. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/raissman-mets-relevant-ike-stick-article-1.1359439#ixzz2Uzel4Vzd
Ben Berkon of the Huff Post targeted three outfield
targets for the Mets. One (in tribute to Michael
Scannell) is:
Unlike Gary
Brown or Michael Taylor, Joc Pederson is both young and still well regarded,
but he's also extremely blocked. Barring a massive trade, the Los Angeles
Dodgers owe outfielders Carl Crawford, Matt Kemp,
and Andre Ethier a combined $280.5 million over
the next few seasons. If the Dodgers were able to pawn off one of the trio, the
team would hand the vacancy to top organizational prospect Yasiel Puig, who is owed $26 million over the next
five years. Despite the crowd, Pederson hasn't let the competition affect his
production. The 21-year-old boasts a terrific career .912 OPS and 11.1 percent
walk rate in four minor league seasons, with a steady and swift trajectory of
promotions. In his first taste of Double-A this season, the left-handed hitter
has posted a fruitful .938 OPS with 8 home runs, an 11.8 percent walk rate, a
.421 wOBA, and even 15 steals in 17 attempts LINK
Jared on Zack:
The
Mets need a starting pitcher Saturday, with Jon Niese recovering
from a bout of shoulder tendinitis. Wheeler, by all accounts, is ready to step
in. Wally Backman, his manager at Triple-A Las
Vegas, has made that point abundantly clear. So there you go: Zack Wheeler's readiness, meet the team's needs. And
yet, manager Terry Collins announced Thursday
that right-hander Collin McHugh—and not
Wheeler—will start in Niese's place here against the Marlins. When asked if the
Mets considered using Wheeler, Collins responded in the firmest tone he could
muster. LINK
No combining draft
this year:
In my opinion Joc Pederson is really interesting. If he can play CF he might become really good. Mack what do you think would Pederson cost the Mets? Something like Verrett + Savannah arm?
ReplyDeleteThe Dodgers don't need much but everybosy loves young pitching
ReplyDeleteYou're going to lose a big prospect there... like Montero or Tapia.
I think Tapia and Plawecki would do the trick
