8. Gabriel Ynoa, SP (Savannah Sand Gnats) — 2009 international
signing, Mets unranked - What he did: 8-2, 2.77, 63 K/9 BB in 74 2/3 innings.
Ynoa, who just turned 20 at the end of May, is one of the younger players in
the league and ranks second in WHIP, mostly thanks to limiting his free passes
issued to just nine. His walks per nine innings stands at just 1.08 and he’s
managed to maintain a pretty decent strikeout rate on top of it. Where he might
rank now: Ynoa isn’t known for having the same kind of pure stuff that might
get other prospects more highly rated, but he could probably fit in nicely in

Look, you
know how I feel about all these Latin pitchers at the Brooklyn or Savannah
level. I need to see more than simply throwing the ball to the catcher as hard
as they can. Throwing gets them through the rookie levels put pitching takes
over only they hit A+ and AA. I like Ynoa, but he, Cessa, and so many others in
the past all look the same to me.

Pacific
Coast League - Ike Davis, Las Vegas -
(.474/.630/1.263, 6 G, 10-for-19, 3 2B, 4 HR, 7 RBI, 10 R, 8 BB, 4 K) - After spending three seasons in New York, it
cannot have been easy for Davis to accept his reassignment to Triple-A for the
first time since 2010. Pacific Coast League pitchers are at least as unhappy to
have him there, as the 26-year-old slugger is hitting .310/.463/.690 in 12
games. Davis hit four solo home runs in two games Thursday and Friday, has scored
15 times and has already drawn 12 walks -- he drew 19 in 55 National League
games this season.
This would
be very funny if it wasn’t very pathetic. The Mets need to get Davis back in
the Flushing lineup, move Duda back to left, play both of them every day with Eric Young in center and Marlon Byrd in right, and market all
four of them at the all-star break.
Mets sign RHP Giancarlo
Alvarado to a minor league contract.
Wrong Giancarlo. Was
0-2, 4.03 in seven starts this year in the Mexican League. Before that, the
35-year old threw for three years in Japan. This is AAA roster filler and we
won’t know if he will start or come out of the pen until, well, he does. For
whatever reason, the Mets don’t seem to be in any rush to send Cory Mazzoni, Logan Verrett, Adam Kolarek, or Jeff Walters to Vegas. Hell, as I’m told, no pitcher wants to go there.
Robert Murray –
The
Padres will be looking at starting pitching at the deadline this year. They
won't be the sellers this year, they will be the buyers. The Padres have
unexpectedly played fantastic baseball this year and are right in the playoff
hunt. According to Jon Heyman of CBS, the
Padres will look to acquire starting pitching this year at the deadline.
Players such as Ricky Nolasco and Bud Norris have been mentioned, but those aren't

It sure
would be nice if Jon Niese wasn’t hurt right now. Shawn Marcum and Dillon Gee are simply too erratic to warrant a good return. No, it
would have to be Jeremy Hefner here. You won’t get the kind of return a healthy Niese
would have got, but you could still pry away a prospect not currently being
used on their 25-man push for the pennant.
Let’s say
either SS Pedro Ciriaco, LHSP Robbie Erlin or OF Rymer Liriano. Yes, Liriano is out for the season having his elbow
reconstructed, but he’s 22, hit .319 (65-SB) for A-ball in 2011, and .298 for
AA in 2012.
Or. Maybe
one of their six outfielders.
