  1. Draft coverage has been great guys. Looking forward to some play by play leading up to the Mets' pick.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Thanks for joining us Justin.

Really hoping Austin Meadows falls to us at #11.

If not Aaron Judge is the guy i want

    ReplyDelete
  3. Meadows would be fantastic.

Also, that Wheeler countdown threw me for a loop. Looked official :)

    ReplyDelete
  4. Hey guys... Mack is in the house.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Hey fellas. Back from purgatory. Looking forward to the draft coverage tonight!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Right now I'm hearing the the Astros are still talking to 4-5 players, but my 'educated' guess is they will go with Mark Appel at a slight discount

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'm saying Jon Gray. At a discount.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I feel like this is Christmas morning for Mack's Mets. haha.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Mack! Good to see you again. Man, it's been a rough time in life but glad to be back!

    ReplyDelete
  10. also... Royals and Phil Bickford are a "done deal" per Gammons

    ReplyDelete
  11. my wished are #11 - Meadows, #48 Wahl

    ReplyDelete
  12. If Smith or Meadows are still at 11, who would you guys go with?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Meadows hands down

    ReplyDelete
  14. Rammy, Meadows... he's a legend in Georgia

    ReplyDelete
  15. I am hoping Meadows, Smith, Judge, Peterson in that order.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Would Bickford be considered a bit of a reach for the Royals at 8?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I am so pumped about the draft!!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. would this be a good time to discuss the pros and cons of gays marrying?

    ReplyDelete
  19. The Astros are on the clock!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Justin:

Yes it is but the deal is done and may be $3mil

    ReplyDelete
  21. Keith Law just said Appel to Houston

    ReplyDelete
  22. (I need to get this site off of Blogger...)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Seeing as how I just came back from a Jewish Lesbian wedding with a lesbian rabbi.....probably not lol

    ReplyDelete
  24. Even the opening comments are late.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Selig always looks like a hot mess

    ReplyDelete
  26. It amazes me when they showed that shot of the Houston draft room... there are ALL the scouts with their suits and ties on and there are t least 5-6 major showcases going on right now around the USA that they should be at evaluating 2014-2015 talent... instead, suits and ties for all, martinis later.

    ReplyDelete
  27. John Manuel and Ben Badler says Astros is Appel

    ReplyDelete
  28. After a years long work....they deserve it lol

    ReplyDelete
  29. He was the best player in the draft - it was the right move

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm going out on the limb here and say that the drug test cost Gray the #2 pick... my pick is Bryant to the Cubs

    ReplyDelete
  31. four and a half minutes seems excessive...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wow.....passed on Gray.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Rockies will pick Dominic Smith

    ReplyDelete
  34. That Adderall thing must've hurt him huh

    ReplyDelete
  35. No way. I still don't believe Dom Smith goes in the top 10 picks.

    ReplyDelete
  36. strangly, the Adderall should have made him a cheaper pick

    ReplyDelete
  37. You said Smith

    -_-

    ReplyDelete
  38. No way Rockies could resist passing on him.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Gray is a steal there. Nice pick. I thought the Rockies would go with pitching, I just didn't think Gray would be there.

#4 to the Twins...I'm thinking Kohl Stewart

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think Colin Moran.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Now I would just be guessing...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Good call Stephen

    ReplyDelete
  43. one of my 'target' guys is Ryne Stanek and having 3 RHPs already gone at this point doesn't look good for my wants and needs

    ReplyDelete
  44. #5 I could see Colin Moran as well.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I think the next two picks will be Frazier and Moran (in no particular order) and then we might have a few surprises...

    ReplyDelete
  46. so we're all waiting for the upset pick

    ReplyDelete
  47. well....Gray dropped 2 spots...that was a small surprise.

    Frazier here i think.

    ReplyDelete
  48. hey guys its Mack and Sue's anniversary tomorrow wish him a good one

    ReplyDelete
  49. good pick... watch for Moran and Shipley next two picks

    ReplyDelete
  50. Frazier was never going to drop down to #11

    ReplyDelete
  51. it's following the plan to have Meadows available at #11...

    ReplyDelete
  52. Shipley to Miami next in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Shipley to Miami makes a lot of sense.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Mack,

Miami would be the biggest risk to Meadows NOT falling to us....so hopefully he falls through

    ReplyDelete
  55. (I am so politically incorrect)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Wow. The Marlins war room has flat screen tv's! Didn't think with all their cuts they would have those 'luxuries'

    ReplyDelete
  57. They probably got them on loan from Rent a Center

    ReplyDelete
  58. hey Mack have you heard anything on trading picks in the future

    ReplyDelete
  59. Wow....wasnt expecting a college pick here.

Was sure they were going HS since they wont be playoff caliber for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Meadows is a risk to Boston or Toronto

    ReplyDelete
  61. Okay...

6 down... 4 to go before Mets pick

on the board... Meadows, Smith, Peterson, McGuire, Ball, Stanek, Shipley

    ReplyDelete
  62. @Gary

I believe Clubs can currently trade "competitive balance" picks

    ReplyDelete
  63. Mack, where do you see the #11 pick falling into your top 25?

    ReplyDelete
  64. it would be fitting that the friggin Fish are the team that'll grab Meadows ahead of us...

    ReplyDelete
  65. Question for you guys: If Reese McGuire is on the board, do you take him?

    I freakin' would.

    ReplyDelete
  66. If Boston doesn't take Meadows here, we got a good shot at him

    ReplyDelete
  67. I think McGuire is going here.

    ReplyDelete
  68. If the Royals take Bickford, we'll have some reallllyyy nice options.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Derek: right now I have D.J. Peterson

    ReplyDelete
  70. Trey Ball huh? A bit of a surprise here, but good player.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Wow....that was a small reach...

Meadows looking REALLY nice right now.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Wow Ball to the Red Sox. Meadows and Peterson still on the board.

    ReplyDelete
  73. ok guys if McGuire and Meadows are on the board who do they pick.....a H.S. SS lol

    ReplyDelete
  74. okay, you Meadows fans now have a real shot at him

    ReplyDelete
  75. @Gary

    Meadows.

We already have a Catcher of the future.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Hell I'm looking at McGuire a lot now. I don't see him getting past Pitt but crazier things have happened. I thought he had a good shot of being a top 5 pick.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Soto...you do not draft for position in the first round.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'm not changing my initial wants..

I'm sick of first round high school players..

I'll take Shipley, Stanek, or Peterson

    ReplyDelete
  79. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I agree with Meadows. But there is no guarantee d'Arnaud or Plawecki will make it to the Show and be healthy.

    ReplyDelete
  81. A solid hitting, defensive catcher is a hot commodity.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Who??? WOw....surprise surprise

    ReplyDelete
  83. ok...throw your brackets out the window

    ReplyDelete
  84. This is a straight draft pool money save move.

    ReplyDelete
  85. okay, with the Dozier pick, the Mets now are guaranteed a blue chip pick... unless they want to fuck it up

    ReplyDelete
  86. I swear if they draft J.P. Crawford or Tim Anderson I'm going to go to north jersey and slap Depo on the back of the head.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I seriously almost threw my computer out when they picked Cecchini last year. I hope that isn't the case this year

    ReplyDelete
  88. Closer - I had Dozier as the 10th ranked third baseman/shortstop in the draft... not even a first day pick... a complete surprse to me

    ReplyDelete
  89. I think the Mets pick the best player available since all eyes are on them after they didn't want to surrender the pick for Bourn

    ReplyDelete
  90. screw this up....hey guys no way we're the Mets...lol....and if they screw this up Mack will quit the team :)

    ReplyDelete
  91. Gary willl tell you... I told him on the phone if the Mets go bad here, I'm becoming a nun

    ReplyDelete
  92. DePo is pissed because that was his guy!

    ReplyDelete
  93. sorry guys...

    me?

I'd rather have all the H.S. players picked before #11 so I can say I didn't make the wrong pick...

my three college guys still on the board

    ReplyDelete
  94. ok so the Royals pulled a Cecchini so maybe we're safe

    ReplyDelete
  95. "DePo is pissed because that was his guy!"

    Haha...good point

    ReplyDelete
  96. Wow I'm really starting to like Shipley this far down. Like a lot a lot a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  97. just got call... told Mets looking at Renfroe

    ReplyDelete
  98. mcguire here

jays need a d arnaud replacement

    ReplyDelete
  99. Gary, I'm not that big on Renfroe

    ReplyDelete
  100. should I laugh or cry that the Evil Empire has 3 picks before our second pick

    ReplyDelete
  101. Backfire, Mets on the clock......

    ReplyDelete
  102. So who do they pick? Who's the best available?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Ship or McGuire. Can't go wrong with either. I would kill for either. Please don't mess this up.

    ReplyDelete
  104. hmmm...

A lot of guys here possible.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Guys, I'm going to go and work on, and post, the Mets pick when it is called out..

    I'll be back...

    ReplyDelete
  106. Mack put the gun down...tomorrow's your anniversary

    ReplyDelete
  107. Backfire = bickford , stupid autocorrect

    ReplyDelete
  108. They'll blow it, they always do....

    ReplyDelete
  109. lot of Dom smith chatter on twitter... BA etc.

    ReplyDelete
  110. This for Michael Bourn.... Who will it be???

    ReplyDelete
  111. Sorry guys, this was my guy! Mack will tell you, I've been talking about him for months. About time!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  112. Defining statement about their confidence in Issac Davis.

    or lack of it.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I hope Bobby Wahl drops to us at #48

    ReplyDelete
  114. MLB comparison Todd Helton....no pressure here

    ReplyDelete
  115. Dom Smith calls Mets "an incredible team" LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  116. guess a Kaminsky fall to us to much to ask for but maybe a Mack favorite in Lorenson

    ReplyDelete
  117. He's 17 and just experienced the most incredible moment of his life and on national tv. I'm surprised he said anything that resembled the English language. Poor kid was nervous

    ReplyDelete
  118. I do love this pick. Great bat, great glove, great character kid.

Really curious why Shipley and McGuire are falling this far.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I like the fact he is athletic enough to move to the OF. And heaven knows how much help we need there

    ReplyDelete
  120. Back

I just posted up an interview I did with Dominic around a year ago plus some info on him (scouting reports)

    ReplyDelete
  121. Wanted Meadows if we went HS. I'm a little bummed we didn't get him but I'll be rooting for Dom Smith.

    ReplyDelete
  122. sorry guys - being interviewed...

    ReplyDelete
  123. Sorry... I'm back... just got off with reporter in LA... very high on Smith

    ReplyDelete
  124. High school pure first baseman

    not happy

    ReplyDelete
  125. Thread has died after the mets pick.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Stephen, I think he's a great high school bat and might be the best projectable bat in the draft, but I wanted a college player that would complete the puzzle and move this team on quicker.

A pitcher like Braden Shipley would have made Queens by the end of 2014 making Syndergaard the 6th rotational pitcher... all of a sudden you can trade for all the positional players you need.

Now, we have to wait another five years and hope things don't go wrong...

    I don't like it... sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Id prefer Shipley but it is still a good pick in my book. Now let's hope judge or Wilson falls to 48

    ReplyDelete
  128. I would have taken Shipley. Then probably Peterson. Smith would have been 3rd on my list.

No wait 4th..I forgot about McGuire.

I think I'm with you..I love the pick, but he wasn't my first choice. I really really like Ship.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Mack, let me ask the question now that we have a name, where does Dom Smith slot into your 25

    ReplyDelete
  130. Stephen, Shipley was NEVER suppose to drop that low... his ETA is after the 2014 ASG... or latest OD 2015... you'd have Harvey, Wheeler, Niese, Montero, Shipley... and all sorts of trade possibilties for bats...

now... wait until 2018... if he doesn't break a leg or something...

I'm really sick of this hole approach...

well, let's see if Stanek, Eades, or Whal is still around at 48

    ReplyDelete
  131. Im still here Mack,

@Derek, I generally wouldn't add newly drafted guys to Top Prospect Rankings.

If I did, I'd probably start him around #18 - #22 to start.

    ReplyDelete
  132. As for too early...Is too much to start wishing for Rondon from NC State to fall to us at 3 or 4 next year?

    ReplyDelete
  133. Derek - Boldt is injured and will probably go to school

    ReplyDelete
  134. Still some really good players on the board that are falling that the Yankees are going to snatch up. Ugh

    ReplyDelete
  135. a lot of high school kids going now... there will be plenty of college players for Sandy and Company to ignore at #48

    ReplyDelete
  136. I know I'm in the minority, but I really do like the Smith pick. I want you guys to just do me a favor and go back to the immediate 30 seconds after you heard the mets draft Nimmo & Cecchini in the past 2 drafts. It could be MUCH worse.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Nimmo pick didn't bother me. I was bummed because the Astros nabbed Springer before the Mets could. At that point I wanted Nimmo because they were hoping to get him with the pick that became Fulmer.

Cecchini? I don't know what to say about that pick.

      Delete
  137. Like they did last year with their second pick?

    Oh...wait...

    ReplyDelete
  138. Ryan - then you are happy with a pure first baseman with a 2018 ETA - that's what you got

    ReplyDelete
  139. Soto, so where do you rank Smith Mets prospect wise?

    ReplyDelete
  140. @Mack

    without seeing a single game....

    #21 probably

    ReplyDelete
  141. so, late 3 first round picks... 2 in extended and one in A-ball

playoffs in 2018, 2 years after I die

    love it

    ReplyDelete
  142. correction...

    "last" 3 first round picks

    ReplyDelete
  143. I think Duda and Davis are traded sooner rather than later and a veteran is brought in during the offseason to hold down the fort until Smith is ready.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Hey gang- big shout out to Mack and my last year's Draft Partner, Stephen!!! I was driving while the Mets took Smith, and Jim Bowden said he has a "70" bat, and anyone who knows him (referring to himself) knows he NEVER gives anyone a "70". Also said great kid, great make up, incredible fielder, and has the chance to grow into a 70 power bat, too. I know everyone wanted hitting help YESTERDAY, but this was a great move, getting perhaps best pure (and long-term) hitter in the draft! I like it an awful lot, and will LOVE it if we get a good college OF bat with 2nd pick!!

    ReplyDelete
  145. Damn....there goes Judge to the Stankees.

    ReplyDelete
  146. this is like old dorm night here...

    ReplyDelete
  147. watch the Yankees now go Wilson after Judge

    ReplyDelete
  148. Wilson or Manaea if both are around?

    ReplyDelete
  149. Somehow I was hoping that everyone would have amnesia and forget about Rob Kaminsky and he'd fall to the Mets in the 2nd round...of course, the Cards grabbed him- but I'm glad that the Yankees didn't get a chance at him.
FYI- Mack was the first person, last year, to talk about Philip Ervin, and I have heard so many great things about him over the past few days that I was almost hoping we'd take him but that would've been too big a reach.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Well Whitson, Manaea, Wilson, Williams, Hart, Denny, Eades all still on the board. Bet is one falls. Praying for Wilson

    ReplyDelete
  151. There actually are some decent players still on the board and each team has a different definition of 'best player available' so the next 10 picks will be interesting.

After that, the draft starts to go weak.

Good names still out there... Eades, Wahl, (wild card) Covey, (wild card) Manaea, (wild card) Ziomek, Windle,

    ReplyDelete
  152. also some decent OF talent still out there... Wilson, (wild card) Boldt, Justin Williams, Lorenzen, (wild card) Abreu

    ReplyDelete
