Binghamton Mets (53-32) at New Hampshire Fisher Cats (42-46)(Double-A Affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays)
LHP Darin Gorski (2-0, 2.57) vs. LHP Sean Nolin (5-2, 2.61)

Monday, July 8, 2013 Game #88 Away Game #45
Northeast Delta Dental Stadium Manchester, NH 12:05 PM

LAST GAME: The B-Mets were hammered by the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, losing by a 16-5 final score on Sunday night. The Fisher Cats scored first against Erik Goeddel in the third when Clint Robinson hit a grand slam. The team hit five home runs in the game, including four in the eighth inning. Andy Burns hit two long-balls in the eighth to highlight the scoring. Offensively, both Allan Dykstra and Travis Taijeron hit home runs for the B-Mets. Goeddel walked a season-high seven batters in the loss, and the bullpen allowed nine runs after he was taken out of the game.

BINGHAMTON PITCHER: LHP Darin Gorski makes his third start of the season, and his fourth appearance of 2013 with the B-Mets. In his last game, he resumed a suspended game from July 1 against the Altoona Curve. The game resumed in the second inning, and Gorski tossed five frames while allowing two runs to pick up the win. He has won each of his last two appearances. In 14.0 innings as a B-Met, he has allowed four runs and 12 hits, and hasn’t allowed more than two runs in any appearance yet. Gorski began the year with Las Vegas (Triple-A) and went 1-1 in four games before transferring to Binghamton.

NEW HAMPSHIRE PITCHER: LHP Sean Nolin makes his 11th start of the season with the Fisher Cats, and his second against the B-Mets. On June 2 in Manchester, he was tagged with the loss when he allowed a season-high five runs and nine hits in five innings. He has won his last two decisions on the mound, including a win in his last start, July 3 at New Britain. In the game, Nolin threw 6.2 shutout innings and gave up five hits in the win. At home this season, Nolin is 0-2 with a 6.60 ERA in four starts. On the road, he is 5-0 with a miniscule 0.98 ERA in six starts. Nolin was drafted in the sixth round of the 2010 draft by the Blue Jays out of San Jacinto College (TX).

WHAT A WIN WOULD DO: A win on Sunday would give the B-Mets their 16th series win of the season. They had a streak of 10 straight series wins come to an end in their last series against Altoona (split 1-1), but they have not lost a series since losing two of three games at Trenton from May 6-8

WHAT A LOSS WOULD DO: Binghamton is attempting to avoid losing back-to-back games for the first time since May 23-24, when the B-Mets lost the series finale to New Britain followed by the opener against Portland. Binghamton has played 37 games since then. A loss would also hand them their first series loss in over two months.

RUBBER MATCH: In rubber games in 2013, Binghamton is 8-2. They lost their first two rubber matches of the season, and have won the last eight since.

A GAME TO FORGET: Sunday’s 16-5 loss to New Hampshire was the largest margin of defeat for Binghamton this season. It was the largest since the B-Mets lost to the Fisher Cats 16-3 on April 26, 2012 at NYSEG Stadium. They also allowed a season-high five home runs, and walked nine batters.
10+ HITS: Binghamton collected 10 hits in Sunday’s loss. They have now had double-digit hit numbers in each of the last six games in Manchester.

LOOK AT THESE ALL-STARS: The Eastern League All-Star Break begins after the conclusion of the five-game series with New Hampshire. The B-Mets are sending IF Josh Rodriguez, IF Allan Dykstra, OF Cesar Puello, RHP Logan Verrett, and RHP Jeff Walters to represent the Eastern Division. RHP Noah Syndergaard and manager Pedro Lopez were selected to participate in the 2013 All-Star Futures Game.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets are off for two days, and the Eastern League All-Star Game will take place on Wednesday in New Britain, CT. Binghamton comes back on the field on Thursday against Portland. They will resume a suspended game from earlier this season, and follow with a seven-inning contest at NYSEG Stadium.
