Gallo Slams Gnats in 9-2 Hickory Win Tuesday      
                             
Savannah, GA – Hickory Crawdads’ third baseman Joey Gallo launched two home runs and drove home seven runs to lead Hickory over the Savannah Sand Gnats 9-2 at Historic Grayson Stadium Tuesday night.
Gallo hit a grand slam in the seventh inning off reliever Julian Hilario, to put Hickory (8-4/47-35) in front 6-1 and added a three run shot in the ninth off Wanel Mesa to increase Hickory’s advantage to 9-1. The 19-year-old Gallo now leads all of Minor League Baseball with 25 home runs.
Hickory scored the game’s first run in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by 1B Ronald Guzman.
Savannah (5-7/48-33) evened the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning. C Albert Cordero and SS Philip Evans each walked. With two outs, CF Brandon Nimmo lined a single into left to score Cordero. Evans was thrown out at the plate to keep the game tied at 1-1.
The Crawdads took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning when CF Lewis Brinson blasted a solo home run to left field.
Savannah starter Gabriel Ynoa lasted 6.2 innings and was charged with four runs on seven hits including a home run while striking out six to take his third loss of the 2013 season. Hickory starter Connor Sadzek improved to 8-2 with a 2.40 ERA by allowing one run on three hits in seven innings.
The Crawdads have outscored the Gnats 14-2 over the first two games of the teams’ three-game series.
The Gnats and Crawdads finish their three-game series on Wednesday, July 3 when the Gnats send RHP Marcos Camarena (2-0, 1.93) to the mound against LHP Frank Lopez (2-1, 5.12). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm. Gates to Historic Grayson Stadium open at 5 pm. The radio pregame show on News/Talk 630 WBMQ and online at sandgnats.com begins at 5:45 pm.
