July 4th DBacks 5, Mets 4 -- 15 innings



July 4th at Citifield, The Mets showed off some fireworks hitting solo homers twice in extra innings to stay alive, but the Diamondbacks held off the Mets to win in 15 innings 5-4.  In the top of the 13th with the game tied at 2, David Aardsma walked Cody Ross with the bases juiced to make it 3-2 Dbacks. But then in the bottom of the 13th Anthony Recker hit his 4th homer on the season to tie it at 3. In the top of the 14th, Martin Prado connected for an rbi single off Brandon Lyon to take a 4-3 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit his 2nd homer to tie the game at 4. In the 15th Cliff Pennington’s rbi single against Scott Rice made it 5-4. But, Brad Ziegler ended the drama and finally held the Mets down, retiring them 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 15th to ice the win. Rice takes the loss he falls to 3-5. Ziegler gets the save.  Dillon Gee started the game for the Mets and pitched very well, going 7 strong allowing 6 hits, 2 runs (both earned) walked 2 and struck out 6.  Gee also added an rbi single in the 3rd. Josh Satin went 1 for 6….his 6th inning single extended his hitting streak to 10 straight games.  A highlight out of the pen Carlos Torres continues to impress tossing 3 shutout innings in relief allowing just 2 hits and striking out 2. With the loss the Mets fall to 35-47 (17-27 at home)Next up the Mets embark on a 9 game road trip that will take them up to the All-Star break. Friday the Mets are in Milwaukee Zach Wheeler (1-1   5.06) looks to rebound from his 1st loss. Johnny Hellweg (0-1  20.25) goes for the Brewers. https://www.facebook.com/MetsForum
