Lyon to Burke to ???
Brandon Lyon was DFA'd after yesterday's Bataan Death March.
He is being replaced with Greg Burke.
There are other options, but not today.
Robert Carson is on the 40-man but I don't think the Mets want to go through that again.
Scott Atchison is rehabbing with the GCL Mets and is probably next in line if Burke or anyone else stumbles.
Past that is going to take a roster move. Tim Byrdak is rehabbing with St. Lucie and Pedro Feliciano is trying to build up his stamina with Binghamton.
Past that, you have Jenrry Mejia rehabbing with the GCL Mets and he has had some major league experience.
That's about all you're going to see this year. There's really no one else in the system that is ready for the Bigs and you're just going to have to hope that the starters can stretch their 110 inning into at least a seven inning stint. You do that and all this will start making more sense.
Folks, we're losing these games because we don't consistently score enough runs, not because we give up too many. The pitching on this team is adequate enough for a playoff team... if... and, it's a big if... you had the bats of a team like Detroit or Los Angeles.
You're only other option would develop if and when Jon Niese returns and Shaun Marcum was still a Met. They will not go with a six man rotation, unless they feel they are surely out of the race and want to limit the amount of pitches thrown by both Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler through having them throw less outings. This would then allow the Mets to take a guy like Marcum and send him to the pen for the rest of the season.
This was a tough loss. They were so close going into the all-star break having only four teams ahead of them in the race for the wild card.
Why is Robert Carson still on the 40 man roster? Isn't there another prospect the Mets can protect on their 40 man?............... I actually love the idea of the 6 man rotation, solely because Im selfish and I wanna see Harvey and Wheeler pitch the entire season, even if every 6 days instead of 5.
ReplyDeleteThe 6 man is the perfect rotation for a staff with young arms that ISN'T trying to get to the playoffs... which is probably what this team will turn into around August 1st
ReplyDeleteCarson has never had anything but a fastball with no movement. He remains in the organization because of the lack of lefties at that level.
4 teams ahead in wild cared ahh not last time I checked?
