Mack Ade – AM Report – 7-2-13 – John Magliozzi, Travis d’Arnaud, Howard Megdal, Jon Heyman, Travis d’Arnaud

Ike Davis' hitch is back.

The New York Mets released RHP Adrian Rosario.

The New York Mets placed on 7-day DL: RHP Ernesto Yanez, LHP Zach Dotson, LHP Shawn Teufel, LHP Jhonathan Torres, OF Julio Concepcion, OF Maikis de la Cruz, OF Alonzo Harris
The New York Mets reinstated from DL: RHP Jake Kuebler, LHP Tim Byrdak, 1B Rhyne Hughes

Prospect Watch -

SP Michael Fulmer - Fulmer had his second rehab assignment yesterday with the GCL Mets and, well, it wasn't as successful as the first... 6.0ip, 6h, 4r, 4er, 0bb, 7k (3.00)... the good news here obviously was the seven strikeouts. This could be the last rehab outing here and your guess is as good as mine where he winds up. Remember, both Savannah and St.Lucie are full up right now.

1B Dominic Smith - Smith had a good day on Monday, going 2-4, with a double. He raised his BA to .217.

The New York Mets have signed their 17th round draft pick, John Magliozzi:

From the school - AS A SOPHOMORE (2013): Named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll for the first time…Selected in the 17th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft at No. 506 overall by the New York Mets…Led the Gators with a 2.67 earned run average and had a 4-2 record in 29 appearances, with four starts…Collected 12 saves, one shy of the school’s single-season record shared by Danny Wheeler (1994) and Josh Fogg (1998)…Had a hand in 16 of Florida’s 29 wins on the campaign…Ranked second on the squad with 57 strikeouts and issued 16 walks in 67.1 innings…Opponents batted just .213 against Magliozzi…Sported a 2-1 mark and notched seven saves in 13 SEC outings…Totaled 23 strikeouts and gave up 11 walks in 32.2 innings of league action… Tied his career-best effort with six strikeouts versus Valparaiso (6.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R) at the NCAA Bloomington Regional and against Texas A&M (6.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R) at the SEC Tournament…Saved the series opener at Georgia for Jonathon Crawford with a scoreless ninth inning…Worked a career-high seven innings in the second meeting with Auburn, with five K and three runs allowed, but was not involved in the decision as the Gators plated four runs in the ninth to emerge victorious, 5-4…Earned the decision over Tennessee in 10 innings with a 2.1-inning stint in which he had three strikeouts…Preserved the pair of wins at Missouri with a combined 2.2 scoreless innings…Saved the first two triumphs during the sweep of No. 8 South Carolina…Captured his SEC starting debut by working 5.2 innings in which he allowed three runs at No. 17 Mississippi State…Fanned two of the three batters he faced to nail down the 5-3 victory over UCF…Twirled 3.2 innings to close out the Gators’ 4-0 shutout of No. 11 Ole Miss to take the series…Picked up his first career save in SEC play with a clean ninth to down Kentucky…Totaled six strikeouts over 3.1 shutout innings to grab the win at Jacksonville…Helped Florida even the series with No. 21 Miami (Fla.) in game two by going 1.1 innings and then closed the series finale against the Hurricanes as the Orange and Blue posted a 6-3 victory…Retired all four batters that he faced to save the Gators’ initial win of the campaign over Duke.

Howard Megdel –

It likely means the Mets, for a third straight year under general manager Sandy Alderson, will be sellers heading to the deadline LINK

Howard makes me look like an amateur when it comes to the dislike of Mets ownership and management. He keeps track of all the quotes that come out of their mouths and Sandy seems to lie more than some of our greatest politicians.

You know if you heart that we’re not going to wind up with shit this off-season. Our pitching prospects are still too young to market while the free agent market is just too rich for our blood.

Alderson will continue to pull off deals like the one’s he did for Eric Young Jr. He has a pool of players (Marlon Byrd, Shaun Marcum, Ruben Tejada, Wilmer Flores (or Daniel Murphy), John Buck) that can get him some interesting upper level prospects that could fit the 2014-2015 need of this team.

What it doesn’t need is starting pitching and, IMO, what it doesn’t need is to trade any of those prospects (yet) until they develop the kind of ‘super’ rotation they are comfortable with. Only then can they designate a sixth emergency starter to stay in Las Vegas in case of an injury and only then can the rest of the pitchers currently pitching from Las Vegas through St. Lucie, me sold off for additional every day players.

During  June, Cesar Puello hit .435/.458/.884, w/ a .449 ISO (8 HR, 7 2B) and 4 SB

John Heyman –

There's no proof Giancarlo Stanton will even be discussed in trades by the Marlins. But when he is available the Mets shouldn't hesitate to make Zack Wheeler part of a package for Stanton. From here, he looks like a much rarer talent.

Boy, these writers throw away these prospects pretty quick, don’t they?

Did anyone remember that Matt Harvey basically sucked the first month he was in the majors? The Mets need to stop reading all these stories and let the kid throw the ball the way he got here. First it was the telegraphing his pitches and now it’s just his general sucking. They’re getting into his head that never turns out well.

Harvey and Wheeler are two different animals and both need to be left to manage their own five day routine. He knows he’s not at his best right now.

Leave him the hell alone and stop trading everyone.

Steve Smistermet ‏@_mistermet  - Good thing Omar waived Darren O'Day for 1 Nelson Figueroa spot start. Mets definitely didn't need a quality reliever like him.

Travis d’Arnaud (broken left foot) had some discomfort while running on flat ground, but that is to be expected during his rehab, according to Mets personnel.

Doesn’t everyone have a little ‘discomfort’ with a broken left foot?

I hurt my ankle once very bad playing basketball. So bad, the doctor said it would have been better if I broke it. I eventually went from crutches to a boot and, eventually, to first, sneakers, than, regular shoes. I literally had to learn how to walk again and I still remember that my mind had a hard time getting through to my body to take that first step.

Why do people like Adam Ruben report this shit? And why do people tell people like Rubin crap like this so we can all think there is something wrong?

He broke his fucking foot when someone swung at a vaseball that hit him!  This has nothing to do with the trade, or how long it takes to rehab. You know the minute the ankle broke that this was going to be a lost season, so live with it. He’s eventually rehab, and then be assigned to Las Vegas to get his game legs. The best you’re going to see here is a September return.

Manny Machado is now 29 doubles away from the all-time single-season doubles record, 67, set by Earl Webb in 1931.

‘Joe Blogs’ about Jeff Francoeur -

And then, he was at the mercy of the kindness of strangers. He rocketed the ball for the last 50 or so games with the New York Mets, encouraging them to bring him back for $5 million. He was nuclear hot the first 10 games of the season, and I remember my buddy Mike Vaccaro of the New York Post texting me with, “He’s figured it out! He’s turned the corner!” Vac wanted to believe it. Everyone has always wanted to believe in Jeff Francoeur. On April 17, he went zero-for-seven, which began a slump for the ages -- he hit .136 in his next 117 at-bats. He had a couple of good weeks then, more bad weeks, and the Mets dumped him on Texas for the last month of the season. He hit the ball pretty hard for Texas but, as I’ve written before, the Rangers are a smart franchise. They passed on Francoeur for the 2011 season

It’s hard for me to believe that baseball has seen the end of Jeff Francoeur. Everyone always expected him to be the next Chipper Jones and it just didn’t happen which speaks volumes for this sport. You just don’t know what’s going to happen sometimes.

I had the pleasure of being inside the Mets clubhouse when Francouer was on their team and ‘Joe Blogs’ is right. There is no one that brings more positive energy to a group of teammates than Frenchey. I wish him well.
