St. Lucie 5 - Ft. Myers 3

The St. Lucie Mets came from behind with a pair of runs in the seventh inning to beat the Fort Myers Miracle, 5-3, at Tradition Field on Monday night.

For the third consecutive game, the Miracle put up multiple runs in the first inning. Levi Michael led off with a walk and Aderling Mejia followed with a base hit into center. After Byron Buxton popped out, Kennys Vargas roped an RBI single into right field to score Michael. Matt Koch then poked a double off the chalk in right to score Mejia and give the Miracle a 2-0 lead.

The Mets got on the board against Miracle starter Jason Wheeler in the third inning. With runners at first and second, Dustin Lawley served a single into right to score a run.

The Miracle answered in the top of the fifth. With Buxton at second and Mejia at third, Kennys Vargas hit a towering fly ball to right that was handled just shy of the wall by Kyle Johnson. Mejia trotted home to give Fort Myers a 3-1 lead.

St. Lucie began to chip away at the lead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double from T.J. Rivera. In the seventh, Wheeler (7-4) left the game with the bases loaded and a one-run lead. Nelvin Fuentes came in from the Miracle bullpen. After getting Lawley to pop up to second, Kevin Plawecki dumped an 0-2 pitch into shallow left to score two runs and give the Mets a 4-3 lead.

The Mets added a run off of reliever Zach Jones in the eighth with an RBI single from Gilbert Gomez.

Tim Byrdak (1-0) pitched a scoreless seventh and was credited with the win. T.J. Chism recorded his 11th save by getting the final out with two runners aboard.
