B-Mets Blank Senators in Opener, 3-0

HARRISBURG, PA – Binghamton Mets pitchers Greg Peavey, Ryan Fraser and Jeff Walters limited the Harrisburg Senators to four hits in a 3-0 victory in the series opener on Friday night at Metro Bank Park. Peavey took a no-hitter into sixth and allowed just one runner to reach third base en route to his first win since returning to the B-Mets.

Danny Muno got the B-Mets offense rolling in the first inning, singling to center off Harrisburg starter Taylor Hill. Following a hit batter, Allan Dykstra ripped a grounder to right bringing Muno home from second with the game’s first run. It was Dykstra’s 70th RBI of the season.

B-Mets starter Peavey faced one over the minimum through three innings before running into a jam in the fourth. The righty plunked Jerad Head and walked Jason Martinson, putting the potential tying run in scoring position. Josh Rodriguez cleanly fielded a scorched ground ball at third by Ricky Hague, but threw high to first, loading the bases. Peavey ended the threat and preserved the lead by fanning Destin Hood.

Hill settled in after allowing a run in the first, posting four scoreless frames. Following a one-out walk in the second, the righty-hander retired eleven straight B-Mets. His cruise came to a halt in the sixth, when he walked Darrell Ceciliani and surrendered a single to Josh Rodriguez. Travis Taijeron doubled Binghamton’s lead by depositing an RBI two-bagger into the left-field corner.

Carlos Rivera ended Peavey’s no-hit bid in the sixth a one-out, line-drive single to right. The Oregon native showed retired the next two Senators, capping his stellar night with another scoreless frame.

The B-Mets tacked on another run off reliever Matt Grace in the seventh. After reaching on a bunt single, Alonzo Harris took second on a sac bunt and scored when shortstop Jason Martinson fired errantly to first on a potential inning-ending double play.

B-Mets reliever Ryan Fraser worked around two singles and a hit batter to keep the Senators off the board in the seventh and eighth. Closer Jeff Walters capped the night with a scoreless ninth for his league-leading 31st save of the year.

Peavey (1-0) allowed one hit and struck out six over six scoreless innings in his first victory of the season with Binghamton. Hill (2-5) allowed two runs over six innings in his third straight loss.

The B-Mets (68-43) continue their three-game series against the Senators on Saturday night at 7:00 PM. RHP Logan Verrett gets the ball for Binghamton versus RHP Nathan Karns for Harrisburg.
