The Marauders (17-26) erased a 3-0 deficit, winning 5-3 over the St. Lucie Mets (23-19) on Thursday night at McKechnie Field. The win guarantees the Marauders at least a split of the season series with the Mets with one game remaining between the teams.
The Mets tallied three times against Adrian Sampson in the first inning, but had a fourth run struck from the scoreboard on a dead ball appeal play. Dustin Lawley was ruled to have missed third base on a bases-loaded hit by Kevin Plawecki that cleared the bases. Sampson pitched five innings, surrendering just two more singles after the first inning.
Bradenton struck back immediately against Mets starter Matt Bowman. Willy Garcia got the Marauders on the board with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Gift Ngoepe brought the Marauders within a run with an RBI-triple in the third. Taylor Lewis knotted the score in the fourth by legging out a bases-loaded fielder's choice in the fourth. Ngoepe struck again in the sixth with a two-out RBI-single against Cody Satterwhite (L, 1-1) to give Bradenton a 4-3 lead.
Orlando Castro (W, 2-2) pitched the sixth and seventh innings for the Marauders. Matt Benedict worked a perfect eighth inning. Lewis tripled in an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning off Hamilton Bennett before Robbie Kilcrease took the mound to record his eighth save in as many tries.
The Marauders faced the minimum number of batters from the third through eighth innings. Sampson's two walks issued were the most he has surrendered in one start since April 25.
The Marauders and Mets play for the final time Friday at 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Joely Rodriguez will pitch for the Marauders, while Hansel Robles goes for the Mets on the mound.
