Brooklyn 7 - Jamestown 4
For the first time in nearly six weeks, the Brooklyn Cyclones climbed above .500 as they defeated the Jamestown Jammers, 7-4. John Gant came away with the victory going 5.0 IP, giving up two runs, one earner, three hits, walking three and striking out five.
In the top of the second inning, Brooklyn struck for two runs, thanks to a two-run blast by Eddie Rohan. Alex Sanchez led the inning off with a single to left, before both Matt Oberste and James Roche were retired for the first two outs of the inning. Rohan then came up and deposited his second homer on the left field fence giving Brooklyn a 2-0 lead.
Jamestown struck right back in the bottom of the second with a run of there own to cut Brooklyn’s lead to 2-1. Danny Collins came up with two outs and doubled to left, before moving to third on a wild pitch while Erich Weiss was batting. Weiss would draw a walk bringing up Edwin Espinal who singled to right scoring Collins.
After Gant gave a run back to the Jammers in the bottom of the second, his offense responded with two runs in the top of the third. Patrick Biondi and Gavin Cecchini both singled bringing up L.J. Mazzilli who grounded into a bizarre double play, allowingBiondi to score on the play. Jared King then walked and moved to second on a wild pitch with Sanchez up to bat. Sanchez then doubled to left scoring King and giving Brooklyn a 4-1 lead.
Jamestown struck for another run in the bottom of the sixth inning, because of an error by Gant. Michael Fransoso was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and then stole second base with Adam Frazier batting. On an infield single to third base, Gant committed a catching error allowing Fransoso to score and cutting Jamestown’s deficit to 4-2.
The Cyclones added some very necessary insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning putting up three runs to extend the lead to five runs. With one out, Rohan doubled to left and after Ismael Tijerina struck out for the second out, Biondi singled to center scoring Rohan. Cecchini then doubled to center moving Biondi to third, bringing up Mazzilli who came through with a two out, two RBI single to left making it a 7-2 Brooklyn advantage.
The Jammers put up two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning off of John Mincone. Elvis Escobar led the inning off with a triple and then scored off a double by Jeff Roy. With Michael Fransoso batting, Roy stole third base and scored off a groundout by Fransoso to make the score 7-4 in favor of Brooklyn.

Other than the walks I thought this was a good game for Gant. No one hit him hard in the game and Jamestown is clearly the best hitting team in the NYPL.
ReplyDeleteThe Brooklyn pitching staff as a whole has been real good this year. If the team hits, they will win the large majority of their games.
