Brooklyn continued its offensive fireworks tonight as they defeated the Tri-City ValleyCats 8-1. The Cyclones are currently riding a four game win streak in which they have outscored their opponents 32-8, a difference of 24 runs.

Brooklyn didn’t waste any time getting the lead against Tri-City, as they put up two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Jonathan Clark was hit by a pitch to start the inning, bringing up Gavin Cecchini who struck out for the first out of the inning. L.J. Mazzilli then singled to left, moving Clark to third with one out. Jared King then drilled a double to the left center field gap, scoring Clark and moving Mazzilli to third base. James Roche was then hit by a pitch just above his elbow to load the bases for Alex Sanchez who hit a sac fly to right, scoring Mazzilli, and giving the Cyclones a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, Brooklyn exploded for five runs on six hits, knocking out ValleyCats starter Adrian Houser after just 1.1 IP. Colton Plaia reached on an error to start the inning off and moved to second on a single to right by Anthony Chavez. Clark then singled to left to load the bases for Cecchini who singled to right scoring Plaia, but Chavez was thrown out at home trying to score from second for the first out. Mazzilli came up and for the second time of the game singled to left, this time scoring Clark and extending the lead to 4-0. Houser was then yanked by manager, Ed Romero and replaced with Randall Fant who couldn’t limit the damage in the bottom of the second. Fant struck out King for out number two, but Roche came up with Cecchini and Mazzilli on and tripled to center field scoring both runs and giving Brooklyn the 6-0 lead. With Sanchez up to bat, Fant threw a wild pitch allowing Roche to score from third and give Brooklyn a 7-0 lead after the first two innings of the game.

The ValleyCats were able to put a run on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth against Alvarez, who seemed to lose command of the strike zone. Jack Mayfield led the inning off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch with Chan Moon up to bat. Moon would draw a walk, bringing up D’Andre Toney who would eventually strike out for the first out of the inning. James Ramsay then hit a sharp grounder up the middle that appeared to be heading into center field and score Mayfield from second, but Mazzilli made a diving stop to prevent Mayfield from scoring. With the bases loaded, Alvarez threw his second wild pitch, this time scoring Mayfield from third and making it a 7-1 game.
