OF
- Kel Johnson
6-9-13 - 18.Kel Johnson, 1B (Georgia HS): One of the best power bats in the high school ranks. Remains to be seen if he ends up at 1st base, or if he can play a solid outfield. http://www.minorleaguerundown.com/2013/06/09/2014-mlb-draft-top-30-prospects/
6-13-13 - 12. San Diego Padres — Kel Johnson, OF, Home School (GA) - A 6’-4”, 210 pound right-hander who has been a fixture on Perfect Game tournaments, Johnson is home schooled by his parents and plays for the East Cobb Braves — one of the premiere youth baseball operations in the country. Power would be his best tool right now as he generates a ton of it with his string wrists and bat speed. A player who you come to watch hit batting practice. Committed to Georgia Tech. http://beforeitsnews.com/sports/2013/06/2014-mlb-mock-draft-1-0-no-time-like-the-present-2513748.html?currentSplittedPage=2
7-2-13 - 2014 Top 100 High School Prospects - 6. Kel Johnson- OF-1B, Palmetto (GA) - Hits everything hard. Had a home run at TOS and a three home run day a couple days ago at a Perfect Game event http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/
7-22-13 - Perfect Game USA @PerfectGameUSA - 2014 Kel Johnson just drilled a HR to put the East Cobb Braves on top. Ball comes off his bat different. Wow! #PGTourney
7-24-13 - Kel Johnson, of/1b, Homeschooled, Palmetto, Ga./FTB Mizuno - Johnson showed toughness and determination battling through a stomach virus during TOS. He has strength throughout his large 6-foot-4, 210-pound frame. The Georgia Tech commit’s calling card is his bat. Johnson, who has a loud setup with lots of moving parts and unique timing mechanisms for his hands and front leg, has good bat speed with a swing path conducive to power—especially to his pull side. He has above-average raw power and can put on a show in batting practice. The righthanded hitter is faster than quick and has enough arm and speed to handle an outfield corner. Johnson is homeschooled, a rarity for potential pro prospects. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/
2. Derek Fisher
5-28-13 - Derek Fisher, OF, Virginia - Like Conforto, the 6’-3”, 210-pound left-hander had a sensational freshman season, hitting .288 with 11 doubles, eight triples, seven home runs and 50 RBI. He has started hot out of the gate for the Cavaliers, going 13-for-38 (.342) over the first 11 games. He has added a double, triple, two home runs and has knocked in 16 runs for undefeated Virginia. A great athlete, he also has an advanced approach at the plate, drawing seven walks to six strikeouts this year and has a .457 OBP. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft/29840#fm24otWuYCEocLQZ.99
5-27-13 - Derek Fisher was a much higher profile prospect than Turner in the same 2011 prep draft class, turning down significant money in the 6th round from Texas. Fisher was a big name for a while in high school, but as a cold weather prospect from Pennsylvania that had an iffy spring and serious swing-and-miss questions, his seven figure price tag limited his options. His freshman year in Charlottesville followed this narrative, as he hit .288 with 22 walks and 61 strikeouts in 219 AB despite flashing upside with 11 doubles, 8 triples and 7 homers as a toolshed with a center field profile. Fisher has made some adjustments at the plate this spring, hitting .309/.423/.533 with 23 BB and 30 K. There's a lot to like here with a 6'3, 210 pound left-handed hitting center fielder that flashes above average speed and power with some aptitude for making adjustments. LINK
6-9-13 - 15.Derek Fisher, OF (Virginia): Even though he underwhelmed a bit in 2013, he’s one of the best offensive prospects at the college level. http://www.minorleaguerundown.com/2013/06/09/2014-mlb-draft-top-30-prospects/
6-10-13 - Derek Fisher, OF Virginia - Fisher was one of my favorite players in the 2011 draft class. He is a good athlete with a line drive swing with good bat speed. There is good power projection in his bat. His approach has improved over the last year at Virginia. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/06/10/2014-mlb-draft-early-college-names-to-know/
6-13-13 - 17. San Francisco Giants — Derek Fisher, OF, Virginia - A great athlete, the 6’-3”, 210 pound left-hander greatly improved his approach this season cutting down his strikeouts from 61 to 38 over roughly the same number of plate appearances while upping his walks from 22 to 28. Over 53 games, he hit .306 with 12 doubles, seven home runs, stole eight bases and had a .420 OBP/.505 SLG. His size suggests more power will come and, if it does, he will be one of the better all-around college bats available in the 2014 MLB draft. http://beforeitsnews.com/sports/2013/06/2014-mlb-mock-draft-1-0-no-time-like-the-present-2513748.html?currentSplittedPage=2
6-30-13 - Frankie Piliere @FPilierePG - Watching @HarwichMariners take BP - the ball acts very different off Derek Fisher's bat. Easy line drives and big CF carry @UVABaseball
3. Braxton Davidson
6-13-13 - 14. Philadelphia Phillies — Braxton Davidson, OF, T C Roberson HS (NC) - The 6’-3”, 215 pound left-hander will be one of the best prep bats in the 2014 MLB draft due to his bat speed, advanced approach at the plate and raw power. He shows good pitch recognition and his strong wrists allow him to wait on any pitch. Over 31 games as a junior, he hit .403 with seven doubles, eight home runs, and drew 30 walks for a .600 OBP/.831 SLG. His strong arm would play well in a corner outfield spot. http://beforeitsnews.com/sports/2013/06/2014-mlb-mock-draft-1-0-no-time-like-the-present-2513748.html
7-2-13 - 2014 - Top 100 High School Prospects - 4. Braxton Davidson- OF, T.C. Roberson (NC) HS - Absolutely mashed at TOS. Three home runs, and hit everything hard. Best bat at the event - http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/
7-24-13 - 4. Braxton Davidson, 1b/of, Roberson High, Asheville, N.C./Dirtbags - The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Davidson has a large frame with wide shoulders and a strong lower half. Using a wide base and deep hand load, Davidson produces raw plus power, which is his carrying tool. With three home runs in four games, he tied the TOS record and hit more home runs than all of the players at last year’s TOS combined (two). Folklore grew that one homer bounced onto a highway more than 500 feet away. His prodigious power does come at the expense of swings and misses. With adequate speed and arm strength, the North Carolina commit could play an outfield corner, but profiles best at first base. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/
7-25-13 – Top 30 High School Prospects For 2014 Draft - 8. Braxton Davidson, 1B/RF, T.C. Roberson HS (NC) - 6'2/215, L/L, Draft Day Age: 17.97, North Carolina commit, Full Report & Video - Quick Take: Davidson is the safest bet on this list: he already has above average raw power with an upper body that should add even more strength to go with elite feel at the plate that already racks up extra base hits to all fields in bunches. He could fit in right field for now and he's one of the younger players in the class. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html
4. Michael Conforto
5-28-13 - Michael Conforto, OF, Oregon State - After hitting .349 with 14 doubles, 13 home runs, 76 RBI and a slash line of .438/.601/1.039 as a freshman last year, the 6’-1”, 200-pound left-hander was showered with awards and had high expectations coming into this year. After nine games, he was hitting .273 with two doubles, no home runs and four RBI. On Saturday, he went 3-for-7 in a double-header with his first two home runs of the season and five RBI. On Sunday, he went 3-for-5 with two more home runs and seven RBI. The bat has woken up, and I expect a full on assault coming for one of the best overall hitters in the 2014 MLB draft. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft/29840#fm24otWuYCEocLQZ.99
6-9-13 - 28.Michael Conforto, OF (Oregon State): The PAC-12 outfielder has a quality hit tool and improving approach, but will need to hit for more power. Even so, he has a high floor. http://www.minorleaguerundown.com/2013/06/09/2014-mlb-draft-top-30-prospects/
6-10-13 - Michael Conforto, OF, Oregon State - A scout’s quick take on Conforto was that “This kid can flat out rake. I think he’s going to be the best bat in the Pac-12 next year, if not in 2013.” He has very good bat speed with lift. The term “the ball jumps off his bat” is one of the most overused in baseball, but it is definitely appropriate in Conforto’s case. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/06/10/2014-mlb-draft-early-college-names-to-know/
6-12-13 - Player: Michael Conforto Position: OF School: Oregon State Date of Birth: 3/1/1993 Height/Weight: 6’1/215 Bats/Throws: L/R 2014 Class: College Junior
Scouting Report: One of the top college bats for 2014 Strong, muscular build
Open stance Smooth swing with lift Excellent bat speed Plus raw power
Ball jumps off bat
6-9-13 - 21. Arizona Diamondbacks — Michael Conforto, OF, Oregon State - After an incredible freshman season in which he hit .349 over 58 games with 14 doubles, 13 home runs, 76 RBI and a .438 OBP/.601 SLG, the 6’-1”, 215 pound left-hander has regressed a bit his sophomore year. Over 58 games, he is hitting .326 with nine home runs, 42 RBI and a .450 OBP/.501 SLG. While he has improved his walk rate and approach, the power numbers are down. A great talent, he should be among the better college bats available in the 2014 MLB draft. He has been a little inconsistent in the outfield this season but shows enough to hold down a corner outfield spot. http://beforeitsnews.com/sports/2013/06/2014-mlb-mock-draft-1-0-no-time-like-the-present-2513748.html?currentSplittedPage=2
7-21-13 - Cuba’s Norge Ruiz dominated his first time through the order, striking out five of the first nine batters faced. The second time through the order got off to a strong start for Team USA as Trea Turner (NC State) opened the fourth with a base hit to left center. LSU’s Alex Bregman followed with a base knock to give Team USA a pair of base runners. With one out and runners on the corners, Michael Conforto (Oregon State) broke the scoreless tie with a sacrifice fly to left. http://ht.ly/2yvWIz
5. Derek Hill
7-2-13 - 2014 - Top 100 High School Prospects - 96. Derek Hill- OF, Elk Grove (CA) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/
7-24-13 - 8. Derek Hill, of, Elk Grove (Calif.) High/NorCal - The son of former minor leaguer and current Dodgers area scout Orsino Hill, Derek is a student of the game. He ran consecutive 60-yard times on grass at TOS in just under 6.4 seconds, and he is one of the fastest players in the class. He consistently produces home-to-first times in the 4.0-4.1-second range from the right side. Hill, who is uncommitted, is one of the top defensive players in the class and has a knack for making highlight-reel catches. He also has an average present arm. At the plate, Hill has a high hand load, balanced base and short stride. He has quick hands, bat speed and a line-drive oriented approach. Hill has a short stroke conducive to hard contact up the middle and to the gaps. The lean 6-foot-1, 175-pounder with a V-shaped upper body has a discerning eye at the plate and rarely swings and misses. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/
7-25-13 – Top 30 High School Prospects For 2014 Draft - 16. Derek Hill, CF, Elk Grove HS (CA) - 6'2/170, R/R, Draft Day Age: 18.43, No college commitment - Quick Take: Hill comes from the same school as 2013 bonus babes 1B Rowdy Tellez (Blue Jays, $850,000) and C Dom Nunez (Rockies, $800,000) and may make more money than both of them. He's had among the best game at-bats early in showcase season but also shows easy plus speed and a fluid swing with a direct bat path. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html
6. Bradley Zimmer
7. Marcus Wilson
8. Zach Shannon
7-2-13 - 2014 Top 100 High School Prospects - 15. Zach Shannon- OF/RHP, Anderson (OH) HS - Big time power in the bat, and can run it up to 94 on the mound http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/
7-25-13 – Top 30 High School Prospects For 2014 Draft - 18. Zach Shannon, RF, Anderson HS (OH) - 6'2/220, R/R, Draft Day Age: 17.96, Ohio State commit - Quick Take: Shannon has a plus arm in right field and is 91-94 mph with a plus 78-81 mph slider on the mound but has an ugly arm action so scouts prefer him as a hitter. Shannon is young for the class, has a live bat with above average bat speed, feel to hit in games, at least average raw power but a slightly mechanical swing. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html
9. Gareth Morgan
6-9-13 - 21.Gaereth Morgan, OF (Toronto HS): Has lots of power with still plenty of room to grow. Might challenge anyone else in the high school ranks for power potential, even if he’s a bit raw. http://www.minorleaguerundown.com/2013/06/09/2014-mlb-draft-top-30-prospects/
6-13-13 - 28. Cincinnati Reds — Gareth Morgan, OF, North Toronto Collegiate (ON) - The 2014 prep class is full of big time power bats and Morgan, a 6’-4”, 210 pound right-hander, has as much of it as anyone else on this list. He is more raw than the players listed above and he has had mixed results when he has faced elite competition. All of the tools are there, however, including excellent bat speed and a good approach, he just needs to refine it. http://beforeitsnews.com/sports/2013/06/2014-mlb-mock-draft-1-0-no-time-like-the-present-2513748.html?currentSplittedPage=2
7-2-13 - 2014 - Top 100 High School Prospects - 21. Gareth Morgan- OF, North Toronto Collegiate (CAN) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/
10. Justin Smith
6-13-13 - 15. Washington Nationals — Justin Smith, OF, Bartram Trail HS (FL) - The 6’-2”, 200 pound right-hander has all five tools, including a canon arm in the outfield (92 mph) and plus speed (6.69/60). He is still considered raw in some areas but his excellent bat speed, along with his frame, make for a huge upside. Many are expecting a huge senior season. http://beforeitsnews.com/sports/2013/06/2014-mlb-mock-draft-1-0-no-time-like-the-present-2513748.html?currentSplittedPage=2
7-2-13 - 2014 - Top 100 High School Prospects - 26. Justin Smith- OF, Bartram Trail (FL) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/
11. Monte Harrison
12. Trenton Kemp
7-24-13 - Trenton Kemp, of, Buchanan, Clovis, Calif. - Although Kemp’s TOS was truncated because of a minor injury, his talent warrants inclusion on this list. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Kemp has a compact, muscular and athletic build. Kemp, who did not play baseball as a sophomore to concentrate on football, has explosive athletic ability. A wide receiver that drew interest from a few Pac-12 Conference schools, Kemp has plus speed. From a deep hand load, Kemp has very quick hands, explosive bat speed and some present power. The Fresno State commit should improve his ability to hit in games after time away from the diamond. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/
7-25-13 – Top 30 High School Prospects For 2014 Draft - 28. Trenton Kemp, CF, Buchanan HS (CA) - 6'2/185, R/R, Draft Day Age: 18.68, Fresno State commit - Quick Take: Kemp is long-limbed, strong and projectable, with a chance for average raw power and is a plus to plus-plus runner that can stick in center field. He would be higher based on those tools but he's still a little raw hitting in games and could move up or down this list a good bit this spring. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html
13. Dominic Jose
14. DJ Peters
15. Senquez Golden
16. Stone Garrett
6-13-13 - Stone Garrett, George Ranch (Richmond, Texas), Outfield - Outstanding athlete with a powerful bat, Garrett batted .359 with six home runs and 22 RBIs. Also had just one error in the outfield for George Ranch. http://www.maxpreps.com/news/article.aspx?articleid=7c0ad513-b5e1-4ac1-b57e-8dedcc72c783&page=8
7-2-13 - 2014 - Top 100 High School Prospects - 43. Stone Garrett- OF, George Ranch (TX) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/
17. Austin Cousino
6-9-13 - 26. Austin Cousino, OF (Kentucky): One of the more toolsy college outfielders available in 2014. Will need to make more consistent contact to warrant an early-round pick though. http://www.minorleaguerundown.com/2013/06/09/2014-mlb-draft-top-30-prospects/
6-10-13 - Austin Cousino, OF, Kentucky - The 2013 season was somewhat disappointing for Cousino, but the first round tools are there. He can run and provides exceptional defense in center. At the plate, he has a line drive swing and should develop into a top of the order bat at the next level. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/06/10/2014-mlb-draft-early-college-names-to-know/
18. Khevin Brewer
19. Carl Chester
7-2-13 - 2014 - Top 100 High School Prospects - 48. Carl Chester- OF, Lake Brantley (FL) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/
7-25-13 – Top 30 High School Prospects For 2014 Draft - 15. Carl Chester, CF, Lake Brantley HS (FL) - 6'0/175, R/R, Draft Day Age: 18.48, Miami commit, Full Report & Video - Quick Take: Chester comes from the school that produced Mariners SS Nick Franklin and has another top round prospect for this year's draft, IF Tate Blackman, as one of the stronger teams in a completely loaded Orlando high school scene. Chester is a plus to plus-plus runner with great feel to hit in games and solid gap power. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html
20. Joey Swinarski
21. John Littell
22. Roberto Gonzalez
23. Jack Benninghoff
24. Tanner English
25. Mason Robbins
26. Justin Twine
27. Mike Papi
6-9-13 - 25. Mike Papi, OF (Virginia): Strong on base skills and hit tool, though he needs to hit for more power to be a regular at a corner position. http://www.minorleaguerundown.com/2013/06/09/2014-mlb-draft-top-30-prospects/
6-13-13 - 25. Pittsburgh Pirates — Mike Papi, OF, Virginia - The 6’-3”, 200 pound left-hander wasn’t even a starter until the 11th game of the season. Since then, he has been one of the best hitters in college, including leading the nation in OBP. Over 53 games, he hit .393 with 15 doubles, six home runs, 55 RBI and drew 43 walks to just 22 strikeouts for a .527 OBP/.625 SLG. With an advanced approach at the plate, and the size that suggests more power will come, Papi could erupt next season. He can also flash the leather in the outfield. http://beforeitsnews.com/sports/2013/06/2014-mlb-mock-draft-1-0-no-time-like-the-present-2513748.html?currentSplittedPage=2
6-13-13 - Mike Papi, OF, University of Virginia: North Carolina's Colin Moran made a late push to be the #1-overall draft pick in 2013. Young for his level, he challenged Kris Bryant as the top college bat in the draft. Mike Papi vs. Trea Turner could have a similar situation in 2014. Though Turner is widely acknowledged as the best college bat in the draft right now, Papi had a uniformly better season this year. Turner's .378/.460/.571 sophomore campaign pales to Papi's .390/.524/.634. And unlike Bryant/Moran, who plied their trade on opposite coasts, Papi and Turner play in the same ACC. http://www.crawfishboxes.com/2013/6/28/4450674/the-way-too-early-2014-tcb-astros-draft-board

32. Hunter Cole
33. Denz’l Chapman
6-10-13 - Todd Gold@TGold_PG - Just landed in Mn for Jr Natl & #PGNational can't wait for tomorrow. My predicted breakouts: 2015 OF Tyler Williams & 2014 OF Denz'l Chapman
6-17-13 - Denz'l Chapman is accustomed to the spotlight. He remembers a moment in Las Vegas, competing for a team from his hometown of Gardena, Calif., against players from all over the country, with the game on the line. In a youth bowling tournament.
"That's a family thing, we love to (go bowling)," said Chapman, who learned the game from his father. "I think I went out there with something like a 200 average."
Chapman's team didn't win that day -- "We came in like third or fourth" he says -- but it might be just as well. http://web.usabaseball.com/article.jsp?ymd=20130617&content_id=50904802&vkey=news_usab

34. Ben Moore
6-20-13 Ben Moore – Alabama - from Don Olson on 6/18/2013 - Ben has a proportional athletic build with ideal muscular development who throws off a bit of BJ Surhoff. He shows good range and first step, tracks the ball well off the bat. He flashes more accuracy than arm strength, but enough to profile at either corner. He has the ideal path with a touch of lift in it, gets a good amount of backspin and can drive it too all fields at 5 O’ clock. He has more of pull power swing in game; it should round out with maturation. Contact should be at least average down the road. High follow into next spring; he has the tools that you cannot teach.
35. Evan Dougherty
5-31-13 - Evan Dougherty, a highly regarded prospect in the class of 2014 who just completed his junior year at academic and baseball powerhouse Bishop Verot High School here in Fort Myers, spent Saturday on the fields of the former Boston Red Sox Player Development 5-Plex performing at this year's PG National Academic Showcase; he was at this event a year ago. He is exactly the kind of player this showcase attracts -- he carries a 3.9 GPA at Bishop Verot and scored a 1880 on his SAT, a score that is higher than 87 percent of all the test-takers nationwide. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=8561
36. Keenan Eaton
6-22-13 - Jeff Sullivan @JSully12 31m - Wasn't aware of him before the event, but 2014 OF Keenan Eaton has really impressed me all week. Vandy commit

37. Tyler Spoon
6-22-13 - Player: Tyler Spoon Position: OF School: Arkansas Height/Weight: 5’11/190 Bats/Throws: R/R 2014 Class: College RS Sophomore Scouting Report: - from Don Olsen on 6/18/2013 - Tyler has a compact and lean athletic build in the Bobby Higginson type mold, with good development in the hips and upper quads. At the plate, he has a wide stance. Tyler shows a quite lower half, good hip rotation, simple swing. High hands, no trigger, little longer path with the compact path and hand speed makes it a non-issue. He shows a good patient approach at the plate. Path is line drive, good bat head control and balance, finds the barrel and routinely squares up. Sound contact hitter with spray gap power. He does show good pull power and with maturation it could an average to above average tool, solid hit tool. Defensively, he tracks the ball off the bat, decent range, and above average arm strength with carry to profile at either corner position down the road. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/06/20/2014-mlb-draft-profile-tyler-spoon/
38. Jake Fincher -
6-26-13 - Player: Jake Fincher Position: OF School: NC State Height/Weight: 6’0/173 Bats/Throws: R/R 2014 Class: College Junior Scouting Report: - from Don Olsen on 6/18/2013 = Jake has a medium athletic lean build. Patient hitter and very selective, impressive strike zone awareness and pitch recognition. Keeps his weight back and fights offerings to ride with the pitch when caught off. Spray contact that can drive the pitch as well, more of a gap power type hitter. Aggressive on the path, quick first step, caught 3.1 on steal to 2nd base, overall very dangerous on the paths. Range and glove are solid, arm is good enough. Jake has the defensive game to transition to CF, but isolated to LF if forced on the corner. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/06/25/2014-mlb-draft-profile-jake-fincher/
39. Brandon Elmy
7-2-13 - Player: Brandon Elmy Position: OF/1B/RHP School: Venice (FL) Date of Birth: 11/11/1995 Height/Weight: 6’2/185 Bats/Throws: R/R 2014 Class: High School Senior Committed To: Furman Scouting Report: 2013 National High School Invitational; from Don Olsen - Brandon shows an ideal frame, sloped shoulder, projectable body that could fill out another 20-25 pounds in a Jack Clark mold. BP shows good spray ability, could turn on the inside with some pull power and loud contact. Bat and path are compact and line drive with a bit of lift in it. More of a gap power bat now, shows the bat speed, leverage, and frame to see this tool increase to at least above average, maybe more. Solid arm and glove, good amount of coverage, likely to stick in a corner, more of LF, but borderline arm strength could improve a touch into RF. If he fills out, the bat could be potent enough to profile at 1B under the right environment. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/07/01/2014-mlb-draft-profile-brandon-elmy/
