Tampa Earns 4-1 Over Mets 


PORT ST. LUCIE, FLA. — The Tampa Yankees had a three-run fifth inning and held the Mets to five  hits in a 4-1 victory on Wednesday at Tradition Field.

Dustin Lawley hit his league-leading 21st home run of the season in the fourth, a solo blast to left to tie the score in the fourth.

Peter O’Brien’s RBI single gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead in the fifth.

Matt Bowman allowed four runs and six hits while issuing two walks and striking out three in five innings of work.

Randy Fontanez pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three.

Tim Byrdak walked four and struck out two while allowing one hit in 1 1/3 innings.  Hamilton Bennett recorded two outs in the ninth to escape a bases loaded jam.

Kevin Plawecki went 2-for-3  to lead the Mets offense.  Lucas Duda served as the designated hitter and went 0-for-4 in his third game on a major league rehab assignment with St. Lucie.

The Mets will host the Yankees in the series finale on Thursday, August 1 at Tradition Field at 6:30 p.m.
