Tri-City 5 - Brooklyn 3 (16 innings)
Brooklyn lost a heartbreaker at the hands of the Tri-City ValleyCats, 5-3 in 16 innings. This is the 10th extra-inning game that Brooklyn has played, going 4-6 in these contests.
Brooklyn put two early runs on the board against ValleyCats starter, Michael Feliz who owns the leagues lowest ERA amongst qualifiers at 1.42. After Tomas Nido grounded out to start the inning, Jonathan Clark singled and scored all the way from first on a double by Gavin Cecchini to the right field corner. On that play, Cecchini advanced to third on an attempt to get out Clark at home. With Jared King up to bat, Feliz threw a wild pitch that allowed Cecchini to score and give Brooklyn a 2-0 lead.
Tri-City came right back though by scoring three runs in the top of the fourth inning to take their first lead of this series. Tyler White led off with a towering home run over the left field wall that appeared to shake-up Brooklyn starter, Dawrin Frias. Conrad Gregor then walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch by Frias, and moved to third on a single by Jon Kemmer. Ronnie Mitchell then doubled to left center, scoring Gregor and advancing Kemmer to third. Frias then hit Jake Rodriguez with a pitch to load the bases with one out, tied at 2-2. Chan Moon then gave the ValleyCats the lead by hitting a sac fly to left field scoring Kemmer and giving Tri-City the 3-2 lead.
In the bottom of the eighth inning the Cyclones came back to tie the game at 3-3. With one out, Mazzilli hit a home run way over the left field wall for his fourth homer of the season, and third in the last five games.
Tri-City scored for the first time since the fourth inning when they scored two runs to take a 5-3 lead. In Cristian Chivilli’s second inning of work, he walked Jack Mayfield and then hit Tyler White to put two runners on with no outs. Conrad Gregor then sacrifice bunted both runners up one base bringing up pinch hitter, Adam Nelubwich. With the tying run 90 feet away and one out, Nelubwich hit a fly ball deep enough to score Mayfield and White advanced to third on the throw home. Jon Kemmer then added an insurance run by singling up the middle to score White and give the ValleyCats a 5-3 lead.
