BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Mets ended their 2013 regular season with an 8-1 loss to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Monday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. The B-Mets finished up the regular season with a franchise record 86 wins, and will take on Trenton on Wednesday night in the first round of the postseason.

After two scoreless innings, the Fisher Cats scored the first run of the game against Mark Cohoon in the third. After Lance Zawadzki led off the frame with a single up the middle, Jonathan Jones brought him home with a two-out RBI hit. They added the lead in the fourth with another two-out RBI single. Ryan Schimpf delivered the run-producing knock to give the Fisher Cats a 2-0 lead. Cohoon’s day ended after five innings, and handed the ball to Armando Rodriguez in the sixth.

The righty labored through his one inning of relief, and gave up two runs on two hits. Kevin Nolan hit an RBI single into right field, and Schimpf followed with a sacrifice fly.

Marcus Stroman baffled Binghamton hitters in his 20th start of the season. He did not allow a baserunner until the fifth inning, and only allowed two base hits over eight innings of work. The only time Binghamton got on the scoreboard against the righty came in the sixth. Richard Lucas led off the inning with a double, and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly from Alonzo Harris.

In a 4-1 game, New Hampshire added some insurance against Ryan Fraser in the seventh. They sent eight batters to the plate, and had three hits to go along with two walks. Andy Burns delivered an RBI single, and Nolan brought home two more on a single to left field.

Hamilton Bennett tossed a perfect eighth inning, and Chasen Bradford gave up one unearned run in the ninth inning. After Stroman’s eight strong frames, Alen Farina held down the B-Mets in a scoreless ninth inning. Stroman (9-5) earned the win, while Cohoon (9-5) was tagged with the loss.

The B-Mets (86-55) begin postseason play against the Trenton Thunder on Wednesday night at Arm and Hammer Park. Binghamton will send RHP Noah Syndergaard to the mound to take on Bryan Mitchell for Trenton. First pitch is at 7:05 PM with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show starting at 6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
