Interesting. Does this mean Plawecki will be starting C for B-Mets in playoffs? If so, with a strong series performance, maybe the Mets use him as a trade chip this offseason. Of course, bearing in mind TDA's injury history it might be best to hold onto the talented, now AA, backstop.
I wouldn't trade Pawlecki. If he continues to hit and be a doubles machine with decent pop, he's a top 5 catcher in the minors.
Lets him start '14 as the Bingo starter and by June he'll be a huge trade chip barring an injury to DarNo. If Travis stays healthy and produces, the Mets will be in the same position that Toronto was in last year. Having two good young offensive catchers and Sandy could get whoever he desires in July at the deadline.
Also, he was their first rounder. He uses their offensive approach. He's a high obp guy. It wouldn't shock me if when he's ready, DarNo is the trade chip to get a really big bopper.
Perhaps DarNo is the chip needed once Pawlecki is ready to get their new SA.

ReplyDeleteThere's no one standing in his way re: starting in the playoffs, other than not having any experience catching many of the pitchers

You have to consider Wiki as a prospect now.
ReplyDeleteHe's a very mature young man who will be major league ready on opening day in 2015.
The Mets need to develop this kind of prospect depth and very few teams have 2 catchers in their system this talented.
I believe I've noticed that Plawecki has been playing some games at 1B out in st lucie.....simply a case of getting him rest, or..........
ReplyDeleteExactly. This was a great pick that when I first saw it, I wasn't happy. Now, I'm thrilled with how good of a hitter he is.
ReplyDeleteJayce Boyd, the normal 1Bman, is hurt and can't throw. He can hit and continued to DH and will have the word needed in the off-season on his wing.
ReplyDeleteLucas Duda, Eric Campbell, Alan Dykstra, an Aderlin Rodriguez are not the answer on first.
And, it looks like Ike isn't going to be tendered.
Looks like we are starting over here.
