September 22nd - Mets 4, Phillies 3
Sunday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park, the Mets completed a road sweep of their 3 game series with the Phils with a 4-3 come from behind win. The Phillies took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd on a rbi single by Kevin Frandsen. The Mets tied the game in the 4th when Andrew Brown’s grounder drove in Eric Young Jr. Mets starter Carlos Torres got himself into some trouble in the 6th inning but managed to get out of a 1st and 3rd no out situation only allowing an rbi single to Dominic Brown, that made it 2-1 Philly. In the 7th the Mets took the lead for good and made a winner out of Torres thanks to rookie shortstop Wilfredo Tovar. With 2nd and 3rd and 1 out, Tover singled to left scoring Juan Legares (Anthony Recker came home when Brown bobbled the hit in left) and the Mets had a 3-2. In the 8th the Mets added insurance when Laegares nailed his 3rd hit of the day, an rbi double down the right field line to cap the scoring for the Mets. The Phils scored their 3rd run in the 8th on a sac-fly on a pop up that Lucas Duda dove into the stands for. Torres gets the win improving to 4-5. He went 6, allowing 7 hits 2 runs (both earned) he walked 3 and struck out 6. Scott Atchison, Vic Black finished up for the Mets. LaTroy Hawkins pitched the 9th for this 12th save on the year, and 100th of his career. Offensively Lagares had a big game going 3 for 4 with a run scored and an rbi. Anthony Recker, Eric Young and Tovar each added 2 hits apiece (Tovar also added a stolen base in his debut). Cliff Lee was the loser for the Phils. His record falls to 14-7. The Mets improve to 71-84, they are now .500 on the road with a 39-39 record. Monday night the Mets are in Cincinnati. Former Red Aaron Harang (5-12 5.69) goes for the Mets.
