September 24th - Mets 4, Reds 2
Tuesday night in Cincinnati Daniel Murphy continued his hot September as he smashed a three run homer in a 4 run 2nd inning, as the Mets behind Jon Niese beat the Reds 4-2. The Mets scored all their runs in that 2nd inning. Wilfredo Tovar continued to stake his claim at shortstop with an rbi single, then with 2 on Murph hit his career high 13th home run on the year and the Mets were set mainly because on the mound Jon Niese continued to impress since coming off the DL. Niese went 7. Allowed 8 hits, 2 runs (both earned) he walked 2 and struck out 6. He gets the win, he’s now 8-8 on the season and his era drops to 3.74. Scott Atchison pitched the 8th inning and Vic Black pitched the 9th to notch his first big league save. Mike Leake started for the Reds and got pounded out of the box. He gave up all 4 runs on 8 hits in 1 2/3 innings pitched. He takes the loss and falls to 14-7 on the year. At the plate, the Mets collected 10 hits, Eric Young Jr, Murphy and David Wright each had 2 hits apiece. With the win the Mets have now won 4 out of their last 5 on this road trip and they stand at 72-85 overall. They are back at .500 on the road with a 40-40 record. Wednesday afternoon the Mets look to take the series. Daisuke Matsuzaka (2-3 5.52) goes for the Mets. Greg Reynolds (1-2 5.52) is slated to go for the Reds. https://www.facebook.com/MetsForum
