September 7th - Indians 9, Mets 4

Saturday night at Progressive Field Ryan Raburn hit a bases clearing 3 run double in a 5 run bottom of the first inning, the Indians beat the Met 9-4. Jonathon Niese was victim on the mound. Niese had been pitching brilliantly going 3-0 with a 2.13 era since coming off the DL, but Saturday was a rare step back for Niese.  He gave up 5 runs on 5 hits in the bottom of the first, overall Niese went 6 innings allowing 9 hits 6 runs (5 earned) walked 1 and struck out 3. Niese in actuality got better as the game went along and kept the Mets in it. The Mets scored their first run of the game in the 2^nd on a rbi single by Matt Den Dekker. The offense was kept on the ropes for the first 5 innings by Indian starter Corey Kluber, but  the Mets struck back scoring 3 times in the top of the 6^th. Batting against his old college roommate,  Justin Turner provided the power for the second consecutive night with a 2 run double high off the left centerfield wall. Juan Legares followed with an rbi single to make it 6-4. In the 7^th against Scott Atchison the Indians pulled away.. Atchison walked a pair and then yielded a 3 run homer by Asdrubel Cabrera (#10) to ice the victory for the tribe. Kluber allowed the 2 runs on 5 hits he walked one and struck out 5.  Den Dekker went  2 for 3 with the rbi. Turner added 2 hits and the 2 rbi as well,  Largares increased his hitting streak to 12 straight games. That’s the longest rookie hitting streak by a Met since Jose Reyes in 2003. For Cleveland, Nick Swisher added 2 hits and his second homerun of the series; his 17^th of the year. Kluber gets the win he improves to 8-5. Niese who had just evened his record in his last outing falls under .500 at 6-7 on the year. The Mets now stand at 35-39 on the road and 63-77 overall on the campaign.  Sunday, the Mets try to avoid the sweep. Diasuke Matsuzaka (0-3  10.95) tries to capture his first win as a Met.
